Coming soon.....checking and savings accounts owned by whites is racist. Think that’s stupid? Well imagine would you have ever seen such a stupid article 20 years ago? No. I am worried about my children’s future at the rate things are going.

Wealthier “urban residential neighborhoods generally have greater vegetation cover, canopy cover, and plant diversity,”

The wealthier, tend to have nicer everything. That’s what wealthier means. Poorer tend to have crappier things—that’s what being poor is all about. Now of course there are exceptions. I notice that the poor often have nicer sneakers than I have, and I’m sure some poor have recently acquired bigger flat screens than mine. But the general rule still applies.

Most of the trees planted in city neighborhoods were planted decades and decades ago. The neighborhoods today are not likely in the same economic bracket as they were when the trees were planted.

Good neighborhoods have a lot of trees because rich people like to buy houses in neighborhoods that have lots of trees, and then they remodel the houses, and drive the prices up.

Rich people don’t buy houses in neighborhoods with no trees, so nobody remodels those houses, and the prices drop and they become ghettos.

And if the city planted trees and shrubs they’d complain that it was taking space where people could hang out.

I’m in SW Florida where the heat index is 110. I am beyond sick of everything being called racist.

Ghetto dwellers are incapable of planting their own trees, or do they destroy the ones which are planted? Inquiring minds want to know.

Got it. So the street gangs that are of the same race that prey on their neighbors are all whitey’s fault. Ditto for black people rioting in their own neighborhoods in the 70s.

If I remember correctly, this “problem” was mentioned about twenty years ago. So volunteers went into the neighborhoods and planted trees.

The trees were immediately destroyed by those living there. So no sympathy from me.

“Wealthier “urban residential neighborhoods generally have greater vegetation cover, canopy cover, and plant diversity,” “

Instead of paying hundreds of dollars on shoes and weave, go and make planters and raised beds, and learn to grow?

Urban Heat Islands have been known for decades.

White families in cities experience them too. Think of kids splashing in open fire hydrants.

I suspect the ruination of urban Blacks came about more through Urban Renewal (TM), then Gentrification, rather than old school urban planning.

If they want to do rooftop gardens or plant trees, I’ll be happy to drag my White Boi arse down to Baltimore or DC to help them out. But they probably wouldn’t want my White Boi help because I’m a White Boi.*

When the tax base is lower, there is less money for tree and sidewalk maintenance, fixing underground utilities due to invasive tree roots, removing storm-damaged tree limbs, pruning limbs that obstruct traffic lights or stop signs, lawsuits from kids climbing in city trees and falling out, gunmen or drug dealers hiding behind trees, etc.
