"It's also arguable that FR is no longer right-wing, and hasn't been for quite some time. Middle-of-the-road is more like it."

You may want to update your understanding of the current definition of "right wing".

The media and Dims have labled "right wing" an ordinary citizen who flys the American flag in his/her yard, or has an American flag decal on his/her car.

You need meet none of the above qualifications if you own a pick-up. You're an automatic "right winger".

Guess it all depends on what the meaning of "is" is?

You're putting waaay too much faith in the "average" voter. Most folks are ignorant of the goings on in Washington and this silly stunt is and will be no different. Or to put it another way, do you honestly believe that Joe Schmoo will remember this in a month let alone allow it to influence his views?

I'm seriously thinking of sending a letter and/or email to every single U.S. Senator telling them all that they are the biggest pile of dog-doo in history. All of them. This charade on C-Span 2 is a joke, and no one is laughing.
They are playing politics over the judges, and enough is enough. I wonder if it would be possible to file a class action suit against the Senate for malfeasance?

***You're putting waaay too much faith in the "average" voter. Most folks are ignorant of the goings on in Washington and this silly stunt is and will be no different***

Isn't that what I just said? Most voters only sit up and take notice when something affects THEM. And the thought of being held up for a trial for as long as one year will affect the thinking of a voter. Hey, this is America. We're supposed to be guaranteed a speedy trial. And in this ligigious society, most people know SOMEONE who has had their day in court. Think of divorcees, for one.

. ***Or to put it another way, do you honestly believe that Joe Schmoo will remember this in a month let alone allow it to influence his views?***

It's one of the things Joe Schmoo will hold against the Democrats.

what if we chumped the democrats into believing it was only 30 hrs.

That would be intriguing strategery--use the element of surprise. Extending the debate at least offers a chance of wearing down the unsuspecting Dems to the point where they might be willing to allow cloture on a couple of the nominees in exchange for ending debate. If nothing else, the unexpected continuation of debate would demonstrate resolve and produce even more coverage of this event.

No, my point was that Joe Schmoo isn't noticing this, if he sees it on TV he's going to dismiss it and a month from now it will be long forgotten by Laci, Jessica and Paris. Just because you and I are aware and care doesn't mean the other 280 million Americans out there do.

It's a promising start. The filibuster alone isn't enough, however. The Republicans need to keep following this up, and should not allow the Dems passage of ANY of their pet projects until they give in on this issue.

Republican senators confirmed boatloads full of extremist left-wing judges for bill clinton, including two corrupt Supreme Court Justices. Now that it's our turn to make appointments, we can't get anyone through.

Hey now FR is only "Right Wing" not "Right Wing extremists." That's progress. After the '04 election we might actually be "mainstream."

Of course we're interested. I'm sick of the dems portraying themselves as "mainstream" and everyone else as radicals. It's just sick.

Well, lookie here: we made the news again!

Great news. I'm down here in DC and after a brief rest, I'll be heading to my third trip to the Senate gallery. It's been very exciting--there's an electricity on the Senate floor that's palpable.

Just hoping it gets some real mainstream media attention rather than just showing cots being wheeled in.

I reacted the same way. I don't appreciate being called "right wing" by the conservative media. Other than that, great article.

what if we chumped the democrats into believing it was only 30 hrs. Only th republicans brought mattresses.

This is exactly what I envisioned prior to the debate starting. Frist certainly understands that the 30-hour debate will not change a single scumbag vote, and so I am hoping that he will take to the floor at the end of this "debate" and say something like:

"It seems that we in the Senate have resolved little during the past 30 hours of debate. Since the unprecedented Democrat filibuster of eminently qualified judicial nominees is such a critical Constitutional issue, we feel that additional debate is deserved, nay, necessary. And so, I have scheduled an additional 30 hours of debate to commence immediately upon the conclusion of this 30 hours. Thank you."
