Correct me if I'm wrong here; the repeal of SB 60 does not prevent any resident from obtaining vehicle insurance in California. Nor does it prevent anyone from obtaining Driver's Education.
The bad, evil politicians calling for the repeal of SB60 did not kill David Berridge; Rosaura Luna, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico and mother of five, did. My hunch is had she not sawed her car in half in the accident, she would have done her level best to flee the scene. Were it only the biker involved, she would have disappeared from the face of the earth in order to avoid the consequences of her actions. Call me cynical . . .
Also, a not so subtle reminder to the helmet Nazis on this board that California has a mandatory helmet law. Helmets are not the cure-all some portend them to be . . .

Meanwhile, Sen. Cedillo's chief of staff, Dan Savage, says an idea is being floated in Sacramento to offer undocumented workers the ability to purchase low-cost insurance from the California Assigned Risk Pool, a program that's administered by the California Deptartment of Insurance.
The icing on the cake........
I wonder who'll pay for the subsidized part? In New York, my 18 year old son, driving over a year with NO accidents and NO tickets, pays $3600 a year for basic liablity on assigned risk. I have to see if New York has some of that low-cost stuff.

It will not make much difference how many people are killed in car accidents by illegal aliens -- there are thousends of accidents (and insurance scams) perpetrated by illegals every year. Nor will it matter how many millions of dollars illegals cost taxpayers each year -- they are already bringing CA to its knees financially.
The only thing that will wake up the soccer mom's and other bleeding hearts is when their children come home from school with a new form of TB (or other disease) brought in by the swarms of illegals ignoring our laws and borders. There is a reason we have (or are supposed to have) border control, and it isn't just about who comes in and where they come from -- it is about what they bring with them (aside from a lack of respect for our laws and customs and culture.)

Another awful story. This crap won't end.

"Doug Keegan at the Santa Cruz County Citizenship project says that many of his clients were gearing up to get licenses come Jan. 1, and were very disappointed when Schwarzenegger repealed SB 60."
Santa Cruz County CITIZENSHIP project? It seems that the true goal is acquiring legal status for those who break the law... drivers licenses are just the tip of the iceberg...

protesters questioned the logic of a system that allows an estimated 2 million workers to break their backs picking crops, bussing tables and cleaning floors, but shuts them out of the loop that would allow them to drive in a safe, responsible and legal fashionWhat's wrong with this statement? Who's allowing what? Last I heard, being an illegal alien was ILLEGAL. I.e., not allowed. This woman should get the book thrown at her. Set an example.
Ride on, Berridge...

But the tragic case of a man killed by an undocumented driver on Highway 1 makes a compelling argument for ensuring that all drivers can access driver's training, a license and insurance, regardless of immigration status. They obviously will drive whether they pass a drivers test or not --- if they attempt the test and fail, they claim it was unfair, not culturally adapted for them and still continue to drive illegally --- our laws don't impress them.

Deport her and her children now. The article mentioned the kind of job the American victim of this woman had --- but it never mentioned what kind of job the unwed mother of 5 kids had --- I have a feeling that was her work --- spit out babies as fast as she could to keep the welfare checks coming. She wasn't driving to work -- most likely she was driving for a taxpayer-subsidized medical visit.

No wonder they come here. Life is not only free, it's subsidized with every good thing Americans can't afford to get for themselves

If this illegal alien had not been in this country this accident would have never happened. Plain, simple, and indisputable.
