That's been my point for years about Gil Garcetti, District Atty for LA, who charged the Rodney King assault cops with attempted murder instead of a charge that was reasonably sustainable, like assault and battery.

Those cops would have been convicted on a lesser charge, but the jury couldn't see attempted murder. Political correctness in my view is what caused the riots that year, because the rioters couldn't or wouldn't make the distinction.

It's all too possible that the force behind that charge was driven by those above Garcetti, but I would've resigned rather than stick my neck out like that, had I been in his shoes.
