Well, here we go again. Round and round she goes, where she stops no body knows.
I would not be surprised to find out that this attack on Free Republic is in co ordination to shut up Rush Limbaugh. The conservatives can now fight fire with fire with Rush and this web site, they don't like it. Another clear and present sign we are winning and knocking a chunk out of the liberal notion of the world. I wonder how much longer we need before we can finally sink the liberal ship once and for all.

The questin begs - what are these news sources loosing by us posting stories from their sites (with linking)?
The answer is - zero. Thus you have to pursue other reasons for their desire to end our use of their materials.
This has nothing to do with copywrite infringement - it has EVERYthing to do with use of their materials in opposition to those media outlet's political stand.

Could you provide excerpts for unregistered visitors and full articles for those of us who actually log in? Collect basic demographics and polling information and provide those to the "news" outlets as an incentive to allow the full posts.
Another possibility is to require all associated advertising be posted along with a full article. It would be hard for them to argue against free ad distribution.
Basically you need an incentive to offer up and having thousands of like minded individuals should provide some kind of co-marketing opportunity (without comprimising FR's independent nature).
Just my 2 cents.

...and yesterday I heard from the Tribune-Review.If you're referring to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, it's owned by Richard Mellon Scaife, and if you guys asked, i doubt that there'd be a problem with quoting the paper verbatum. i can't imagine any difficulty.

Just a thought but... Why can't we all become journalists and reporters? I mean hell, we have thousands of Freepers all over the place and a lot of those can deploy on a moments notice. (I know, a lot of us work, unlike the RATS) But..if we can forge an army of our own to get the SAME information that the others are getting, why not?
Then we won't need their friggin permission to print their leftist/socialists/propogandists views.
But that's just me....

I didn't see AOL's name on your list but I have to assume they are one of the complainers. Since they are so far left of center and socialist bound. I use their poll vault to post good conservative news, I know they just hate it and surely must be one of the rabid liberal complainers. I do post alot of Free Republic News on there, but I always, always include the name and source from which it came...Seems they don't mind the radical posts of the rabid propaganda spewers, so A few of us conservatives do our best to slap these idiots in the face with truth and realism. Of course this usually evokes screams, knashing of teeth and head spinning from these rabid hate mongers as though they were having an exorcism performed on them...So like the good conservatives we are, we continue to fight the rabid propaganda with truth so all REAL Americans can decide for themselves...
Thanks for all your great info. I really appreciate it...

This is no surprise. I think the liberal left will try and do all possible to defeat Bush. This is the hand print of the rats.
Excerpts should do just fine. I post occasionally at another web site, this has been their rule for a very long time. We'll all learn to live with it.

I wonder if the excerpt hyperlinks can be designed so that the visitor to FR who clicks on the link goes to the news source website, but with no popups or adverts shown on their sanitized page. ;-)

"I think we're gonna have to go to excerpt and link for all news sources very soon unless we have written permission on file."I'm sure this makes quidnunc, the Emporer of Excerpts, jump for joy!
Am I the only one that finds it very suspicious that all these complaints seem to be popping up at once?
