Although I agree with your premise (there is a time and place for everything; now is not the time to attack Senator Kerry --- he'll still be an idiot next week), I don't know why you had to post this as a vanity instead on the Kerry live thread.

Giving a thumbs-up leaving a funeral is a bit disrespectful. There is a time and place for everything, and that's not it. Kerry's comments on the plane that he met with President Reagan more than President Bush were idiotic, especially when he's been AWOL from Washington for the past two years. Did he expect President Bush to come visit him in Iowa and New Hampshire? And I still don't understand why he thought he needed to go to the Reagan Library to pay his respects when he could have done it in Congress or at the funeral later in the week. But I don't begrudge him for doing so.

I keep seeing this. Where did you see that he brought a photographer?

Well, somehow AP photographer Jeff Chiu was inside taking pix of Kerry. Those pix made the AP internet wire within 30 minutes.

Other dignitaries came through. They didn't have camera people. Someone posted that cameras were not allowed. So somebody either broke the rule -- making Kerry's appearance a political photo-op -- or Kerry got special permission to be photographed.

[Related post: Kerry supposedly called Mrs. Reagan yesterday, but reports say she declined his phone call. -- So, apparently, she didn't give special permission for Kerry to be photographed.]

Kerry could've waited until Friday like the other senators. This was an unfeeling photo-op.

Have you ever heard of an opportunist? A person who takes advantage of any opportunity to achieve an end, usually
with little or no regard for moral principles. (French op-
portuniste). Well, I got this describtion from The Ameri-
can Heritage Dictionary, and that says it all. Look it up!

Rather than posting spurious diatribes born from specious motives, you should simply reflect on the passing of a great President of the United States of America.

There is much time for you to engage in sophomoric political puffery. In the meantime, remember Ronald Wilson Reagan and the dignity and courage of Mrs. Nancy Reagan.

Actually, there have been additional cameras there quite a lot.

I guess we will have to see where the camera story started. I can not say for certain that I saw him bring a camera in...but I did not catch the whole thing, just when he was standing in front of the coffin and put his hand over his heart, etc.

Still was pretty clearly a publicity piece to it, which I think he should have avoided.

Who out there can verify the camera story?

It will be a moot point once Her Thighness decides she's had enough of his blue-blood botox a$$ this fall.

Reagan wasn't the fire-breathing, caricature right-wing that the NY Times...

The author of the article didn't say he was a NYT caricature.  He simply said, "John Kerry is a left-wing Democrat and Former President Reagan was a right-wing Republican."

You said, " And Reagan was not a "right-wing" Republican."

He was, and was proud of it.

Kerry could have waited until Friday to pay his respects along with the rest of the D.C. VIP's.

Thousands of ordinary people, plain Americans, working-class, middle-class, the salt of the earth, the "common man" that Kerry claims to represent, waited in line in the broiling hot sun for hours on end to salute their hero.

And here comes this elitist in his limousine with his entourage and media crew shoving aside the "unwashed multitude."

What was this shmuck thinking? "Oh, they're all Republicans who wouldn't vote for me anyway!"

Do we know if he's flying back for the Wednesday night ceremony at the Capitol? I think he (legitimately) was supposed to attend his daughter's graduation tomorrow. Maybe he went to the library to deflect criticism for a no-show tomorrow?

If he hadn't paid his respects, the same people would be throwing a fit.

He's INVITED to the funeral on Friday, where he can have all the press he wants.

This was a vulgar, crass photo op. Stating so is not 'bashing' but 'honesty.'

Uh, no. That's simply not true. Have you heard anyone on FR fussing about Clinton, etc., not having visiting the casket yet? Of course not.

And secondly, if Kerry had waited until Reagan's body was in Washington and simply paid his respects there in the Capitol building just like most Sentors & Representatives will, I don't think you'd be hearing much complaint.

But Kerry saw how much TV attention the Reagan visitation was getting and went out of his way to go for a photo op while Reagan was still in California. It was disgusting.

I'm afraid I've put myself in a bad position. I don't want to be a Kerry defender but my concern is how it makes us here at Free Republic look when we go after the guy on this occasion. Like I said there's a million other things we could go after him for and personally I'd rather go after someone like Ted Rall or the idiots at DU.

You're totally missing my point, but no biggie. I'm not going to get into a pissing match over it though.
