Then, on Oct. 27, a Soviet Whiskey-class sub suddenly and very publicly ran aground on the rocks inside a Swedish military base, using a route that had been used previously by another Soviet intruder, these sources said.

Ah yes, 'Whiskey on the Rocks'.

So much for the flat out lies of the left that "Reagan had nothing to do with the Soviet Union's collapse".

"it was decided at the Swedish-Weinberger meetings to trap and detain a Soviet submarine... These sources also said U.S. technology was able to manipulate the sub's instruments, causing them to exhibit "false readings" until it was misled and went aground. "We had that sort of technology," one of the former intelligence officials said."

Early non-lethal "work-accident" ping.

I just bookmarked it. I've heard most of this before, but this pulls it all together.

The Reagan quote I always heard was "God did not ordain the Soviet Union"; based on that conviction he decided to bring it down. And he did.

Reagan was God's own cowboy.

No mention of the covert destruction of the Trans-Siberian oil pipeline? I love that story, and wonder why it was left out of this article.

The explosion was so big that our satellites thought a nuclear device had gone off.

Agreed. The last paragraph summed it all up--Reagan wanted to destroy communism. He didn't want to merely contain communism. Reagan knew that there is no such thing as peaceful coexistence with a political/religious system which seeks world wide domination by destroying freedom and enslaving all people, as for example in sharia laws. Is it smart to pretend that all people/systems of belief share the same goals in life? I cannot see Ronald Reagan allowing Islam to spread as it is currently doing because I deeply believe he would understand its devestating effects on the human spirit, the culture it influences and making the world a more dangerous place.

Doesn't this make you think about the parallels with the current war on terror--that instead of wanting to coexist/cooperate with a system that wants to destroy us we should be declaring war on Islam as a seditious system whose actual aim is to enslave the world? And if that is too extreme for you, is it too extreme to at least expect our government to tell the truth about Islam so Americans will be better prepared to make informed decisions about how agressive or passive we want to be about waging a war against its aims or tolerating it in our midst or containing it its present boarders? It is not helpful when our leaders try to put a happy face, even a false face on it. One thing I know for sure, Ronald Reagan would not have gone around the country telling Americans Islam is a religion of peace and Christians and Jews worship Allah. He had too much common sense and honesty to tell us such a harmful lie as that.
