Thank my H.S. English Lit teacher for drumming what all those odd words in the works of Chaucer and Shakespeare really meant.

Mrs. Grange you did your job well, thank you.

The child might not be considered an American citizen but the child is still a human being with innate human rights ---- The Right to Life.

Science tells us that each fertilized egg has its own unique DNA. Therefore it is neither unscientific nor illogical to declare and demand Personhood for each new human being.

There are many surgeries being performed today on children in the womb at many gestational ages to cure and to protect their rights to live confirming the fact that these children have the full respect of doctors who provide them medical treatment.

Faith also teaches us that God's only son, Jesus Christ , chose to enter this world the same way we all did -- as a conceptus thus dignifying for all time the sanctity of all human life from its very beginnings.

There are only a few groups who are so hard of heart to deny the human rights of newly created human beings. Population controllers, the abortion industry, some federal judges, and mad scientists wanting to be humanity's creators come to mind.

Even if you don't believe in God, aren't we safer and protected by this concept instead of allowing a few men and women to decide what life is, when it begins and who has the right to it?

Ron Reagan's definstion of embryonic stem cell reserach was not even accurate. Then a lazy and biased media today dosn't even bother to investigate or refute his claims. I have noticed that the TV media is beginning to use the general term of "stem cell research" without any kind of scientific differentiation between:

cloning
or
therapeutic cloning
or
embryonic stem cell research where indeed human beings are being destroyed and cannibalized with the intent to improve the lives of the living while not one person has been cured.
or
adult stem cell research and cord blood research – both of which have been proven to help many people.

Where is our humanity if we deny this child, her mother and family the best possible care?

Do you realize how many women in the world have babies without the benefit of the best possible care (if that is defined as a US hospital). Nothing in this article indicates that the baby is anything but normal. Where is our humanity? How can you make the US the humanitarian of the world? Better to let a legal resident of Mexico have her out of country conceived child in her own state. On its face I reject all arguements of this type, because it denies the existance of the ethics of hard work and paying your own way.

"I say we let her back in and let that stand that the fetus is viable American, establishing that it is a baby and has rights...That would be a win for the anti-abortion stand."

Does that mean that every illegal who gets pregnant here gets to stay? Who's to say she didn't arrive pregnant? Regardless of one's position on the point at which human life occurs, the law provides that those born here are citizens, not those conceived here. I say she and her fetus get the boot, just like ALL the other illegals should. This case could damage immigration control much more than it would help the pro-life position.

Agreed - if you are here unlawfully, then a child born here should not be a citizen (literally, fruit of the poisoned tree); anything else is an insult to citizens and the law-abiding...

You'll have to repeal the 14th amendment then. Anyone born in the US and subject to the jurisdiction thereof is a citizen.

The founders had specific thoughts regarding citizenship.

I don't think they had visions of uneducated illegal alien mothers showing up to jump on the dole, and produce more anchor babies at our expense.

If the welfare state were entirely eliminated, I wouldn't feel that way about it. As it is, all I see is one more parasite for the producers to carry.

The woman is as immoral as any other thief.

I am quite sure she could receive donated services to take care of her problematic pregnancy saving you from contributing to her care or the care of her child.

Then they can be deported.

This is why the 14th Amendment needs to get the Heave-Ho ... or at the very least, an extensive rewriting!

Here's something interesting (meaning I missed it the first time around):

On June 11, 2004 Irish voters voted in a national referendum to end automatic citizenship for any child born in Ireland regardless of the parents’ residence status. Ireland was the last member of the European Union to allow pregnant foreigners to gain residence and welfare benefits as a result of birth in the country. Seattle Post Intelligencer, June 13, 2004.

and this:

Every Person born within the limits of the United States, and subject to their jurisdiction, is by virtue of natural law and national law a citizen of the United States. This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons." Senator Jacob Howard, co-author of the citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment, 1866.

I envisioned a cartoon that illustrates this situation.

The setting is the border with a large dotted line between labels "Mexico" and "U.S.A". On the Mexican side a woman attired in typical cultural dress stands sullenly by the line as her spiffily outfitted attorney argues with a cynical judge on the American side. The lawyer is pointing at her with one hand while waving a burning Constitution in the other.

From underneath the woman's hem you can see a ship's chain crossing over the border to an anchor sunk deeply into American ground.

Um, sorry - but, I don't think it's a God-given right for you to come to my country, have your kid at taxpayer expense, then bring in all your relatives to "care" for the little citizen. If they aren't here legally, then by all means make sure the baby is healthy then deport them all and deny citizenship to them all...IMHO

This is an interesting article in the Mexican newpapers --- about those women coming over for their welfare handouts, crossing the border in high temperatures --- some human's rights group in Mexico is telling us we need to be very special with them:

http://www.diario.com.mx/secciones/mexico/nota.asp?notaid=1f3d405f8e6b9be0cb07cb7f65619875

Cruzan frontera más embarazadas (More pregnant women are crossing the border)

It's in Spanish but easy enough Spanish to read.

Lawyers for a deported Mexican woman who is eight months pregnant are seeking her return to the United States to protect the unborn baby's health. They also say under federal law the fetus is a viable human being and thus may be eligible for citizenship rights.

Right. And if she wanted an abortion, it would be an undifferentiated tissue mass.

Check the link I just posted --- even the Mexican papers are reporting on the large numbers of pregnant women coming over the border. Obviously these women don't care about the lives of their babies if they cross through Arizona in high heat --- to them it's just a gamble they figure could pay off very well in welfare handouts. They figure they'll never have to work ever in their lives.
