They both applied for use for retail merchandise and for real estate.
Trademarks have to be specific and these are. But they are not specific to political use.
What a bunch of clownish liberal jerks.
Go Huskies!
Hi, onyx! (What's an IOW?)
they need to get a clue...sounds like a freepin is needed...got contact info?
Gaaaahhhhh
Mother Jones has him listed #6 on the Mother Jones 400 of fatcats!

IOW = In other words.
How are you doing?
I read your comments and you still get me to laughing.
Go Badgers!
I guess I still haven't picked up on all the web slang!
Email to Starwood:
Dear "W" Starwood Resorts Executives:
Your proposed lawsuit against the President of the United States of America for using his middle initial on campaigning materials or otherwise is completely uncalled for. The font you use and the font the President uses are completely two different styles. You should be ashamed of yourselves and your frivolous lawsuit.
I have a message for you and the Democrats you support. SHOVE IT! Do not bother to reply to me, I have nothing further to discuss with you or any of your chains. Rest assured, I will NEVER stay in any of your hotel chains and plan to tell all who will listen to me to do the same.
Dude ,send that link to Drudge
"You cannot copyright numbers, or single letters of the alphabet."
Thank you poohbah, you truly are grand! It's clear it's not the same font anyway. I saw a pretty interesting thing the other day, an ad for something, a book maybe, it was like a little quiz, words made up of famous advertising logo letters. The Campbell's Soup "C" (I got that one), the Wendy's "W" (didn't get that one), and so on. It was kind of amazing how the stuff sinks into your mind, or completely passes you by. I wish I could remember what the thing itself was all about. Oh well, that ad was a failure!
And why did they wait until 2004 to bring this suit?
Spalding Group has been selling that stuff for 5 years, because I bought some in 1999!
You can buy some, too!

Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent miscellaneous ping list.
Yes you can copyright a letter, they did it for the letter "W". However it was restricted to the use of merchandise related to bedding.
The W is pompous, overpriced, overrated and self-absorbed. Obviously they think opposing the REAL W will give them a publicity buzz.
News: The language cannot be copyrighted. If a company is so stupid as to name itself after a letter of the alphabet, it has almost NO hope of creating exclusive use for that title, except in combination with something else. "W Hotel": sure; "W" by itself: never.
