Rather will not admit his complicity in this attempted Coup. And make no mistake; it is an attempted coup.

One might wonder why two statements, why not one unified front. I think the answer is that Heyward and Rather disagree as to the root of the problem. Rather sees it as the problem being the source is undetermined while Hayward sees the problem as the doc's not being authentic.
How is this significant ? Well if the only issue is the source then the source is the only thing Rather didn't have confirmed, he can claim plausible deniability. However,if the authenticity of the doc's is the issue then Rather needs to be accountable regarding all of the experts and other witnesses that said they were frauds.
This implies an interesting internal war. Rather has painted himself into a corner that says he doesn't agree with management. Rathers separate statement as to the cause is a form of insubordination and a challenge of Hayward's authority and by extension a challenge to all of CBS. My guess is that Rather either knows he is going down and has nothing to loose or he doesn't know and is too arrogant to think he will lose.

I'm sure it explains how Dan and CBS News did nothing wrong, the story (about Dubya)
is true, and Dubya and Rove are the criminals behind Memogate.

These are unacceptable statements. People should be fired and a sincere, public apology needs to be given to each of the people who were slandered by CBS' heavy-handed approach to this fake story. Anything less is totally unacceptable. It is real simple to INVESTAGATE right now.
