Wonder why India has been unsupportive of the US??Because the US has mostly tended to be supportive of an Islamic dictatorship,Pakistan which is the main reason for the Islamic terrorism in India in the 1st place. In short,The US cannot expect to have it's cake & eat it too.

"What I find laughable is that Britain and France attacked Egypt back in the 50's against the warnings of the US and the UN"

Britain, France AND Israel. We were a true gang, back in 1956.

This is true.

However, Musharrif and his government are far less of a threat to India than would be the alternative - the REAL Islamic nuts trying to remove him.

If Mushariff ever goes, an American commando unit should be immediately dispatched to blow up Pakistan's nuclear facilities.

Pakistan is as much a pain in the butt as Saudi Arabia.

Yep-if im not mistaken, most of Israel's early nuke programme was French in origin(till 67)??Even now the French military uses a lot of Israeli weapon systems & electronics including UAVs,jamming systems etc.

Absolutely, the Dimona nuclear research center was a joint Israeli-French lab at a time when both countries wanted to obtain the A-Bomb. The first Israeli bombers that were supposed to carry the bomb were Dassault "Vautours", BTW.

For Israel the "atomic quest" was largely motivated by the absolute necessity of compensating a demographic nightmare by WMD possession, and for France it was the aftermath of the Suez operation, when the US and USSR told France and the UK they had no right to depose Nasser who happened to fund Algerian terrorists and just seized British and French property. Funny how history repeats itself, sometimes.

I'm with the President on this one: support Japan.

First, it's yet another small and positive step towards Japan reasserting itself from a defense standpoint and, as a fairly solid US ally, an additional counterweight against the Chinese.

Speaking of whom, Peiking can't think much of Japan's interest in joining the Council.

Four countries that want permanent membership on an expanded U.N. Security Council - Brazil, Germany, India and Japan

Only one U.N. Security Council seat for the EU. France must give up it's seat. That means no to Germany

No to Brazil.

OK to India.

Yes to Japan.

Good point, plus also the irritation over what Nixon did in '71 (sending an aircraft carrier to support Pakistan in its war on India) probably still rankles. and then there is the fact that we still do support COMMUNIST CHINA (another Nixon legacy).

America has at least two foreign policies - a Democratic one, which is consistent but wrong, and a Republican one which is occassionally correct.

Nixon's dumping of Taiwan to recognize Red China was unforgiveable. We got nothing except another place to dump American jobs. They just as aggressve, hostile and dangerous as ever, if not more so.

I think Nixon was under the mistaken opinion that we curry favor with them and use tham as allies against the Soviets.

Only some of Bush I's policies were more flawed.
