BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - The Kern County coroner's office on Tuesday identified a body found in a Delano orchard as that of a political worker.
The body of 21-year-old Magdalia Bermudez was identified through dental records, officials said. She was discovered Friday - four days after being reported missing.
Delano police detective Sam Castaneda said the death has been ruled a homicide. The cause of death was withheld.
Castaneda said police were searching for 23-year-old "Junior" Quevedo, a co-worker of Bermudez and husband of her best friend.
Quevedo disappeared about the same time but has not been the subject of a missing persons report.
Both Bermudez and Quevedo were working for Western Pacific Research, a company owned by Republican political consultant Mark Abernathy.
The firm has issued a joint statement with the Kern County Republican Party saying they mourn the loss of Bermudez, who was working on voter registration and other election efforts.

Uh is that thee Abernathy of Catch Me if You can?
I agree. Always have a buddy, it's safer and more fun.
Prayers for this girls family. I hope theres a huge rally right in the heart of where she went missing.
This is important. This poor young girl who at 21 is getting out the vote for Bush. Says a lot of her character as sKerry is favored by the under 30 crowd.
We should really pay careful attention to this murder. If it was a Kerry supporter, the world should know. To be certain, she certainly would have wanted (I assume to believe this) Kerry's campaign to pay for its crime.
Remember when Bush sent a new sign to the little girl who cried? Think about what this wonderful man would do to respect this woman.
Truly an American tragedy.
Color me cynical, but what are the odds that neutral description would be used in the headline if she was working for Team Kerry?
Oh no.
where is delano ?
I'm under 30, a Hugh Conservative! Seriesly! Have been my whole life.
Call me cynical about Democrats but if this girl had been getting out the vote for Dems they would have already had rallies to 'win one for her'.
You mean like the sick sick sick Wellstone memorial?
It's hard to believe Delano has again faded from the American psyche -- Caesar Chavez, what a tool! I didn't live or grow up in Delano (we were up in Sonoma County), but my great uncle had a sizable winery in Delano. The family had terrible trouble with Chavez, my cousins had to to to school in my great aunt's ancient armored Cadillac because the strikers were throwing stones and beating the car with sticks. I have fond memories of the vineyards and winery, but decidedly unfond memories of Chavez. Somewhere, I think I still have an "Eat Grapes: The Forbidden Fruit!" bumper sticker.
thanks.....dear Lord.....horrible
Fantastic! I have a 19 year old and he said not one of his friends (and he has a lot) are going to vote for Kerry. They think he's a phony. I guess I should retract my statment about that, but I got it from "the polls."
By the way everybody, I did send an email to drudge to get this story up - it needs to get out!
exactly like that
Isn't Caeser Chavez some type of hero for the hispanic people? They renamed a road here in Milwaukee after him.
Good Lord...no! That is exactly what the Dem's would do.
The best solution is swift justice for the murderer with a swift execution.....oh forgot this is California...
May God have mercy on her family and give them comfort...
