Nope. A heavy voter turnout has traditionally favored Democrats. 1998 was a good example, when a heavy turnout almost recaptured the Senate and the House for the Democrats. In 2000, the DUI caused nearly 4 million fundies to stay home and almost cost Bush the White House.
If there is a heavy, heavy turnout tomorrow, Kerry's the winner.
Just remember: Des Moines Register=DEM SHILL. They will lie or spin any number to make their guy appear to have the lead. Bush wins IA.
I must concede the point because I can find no articles supporting my position. I have however heard this dicussed on the radio.
All depends on who is turning out to vote most heavily. That's a given. The total turnout is comprised of exactly who? How many Catholics who plan to vote R this time? How many Evangelicals who stayed home in the DUI debacle will turn out in droves now. How many Reagan Dems will turn out for Bush or Veterans against Kerry for Bush. How many Security Moms for Bush. I could go on and on.
Bush & Cheney and their surrogates have concentrated heavily on finding and turning out many more Bush voters than seemed to exist pre-9/11. Yet they are out there, untapped in the past. They weren't political enough, they were too busy just living their lives. Many are found in the so-called Exurbs that many folk have moved to, beyond the old traditional surburban lines. A glimpse of this was seen in 2002, when we took back the Senate while almost nobody predicted we would. But only a glimpse. Today's strategy is light years beyond that level.
By the way, LS posted from Ohio that early on this year, Ohioans for Bush called every single solitary registered voter in the entire state of Ohio, and got them on record if they considered themselves Dem, Repub, or Indy. They asked them questions and urged them to vote for Bush. Then recently they called the Indys again and found they plan to break for Bush by a 6 to 1 ratio. The GOTV effort there is beyond belief. Of course this has an effect on turnout.
Not to mention, this is a post 9-11 world. Not all agree that Bush is the answer to that fact, but many do. And of those who do, the turnout for Bush will be staggering.
I figured that out when he said would go after Bush supporters. Where else would he find them? We'll never know if the way the polls are going are keeping us safer.
I do NOT watch Fox and Friends!! It is the most liberal program in the morning in my opinion.
Well, you've made me feel better. I don't mind telling you, I am not as optimistic about Bush winning this thing as I was on Saturday. I expected a bigger break to Bush.
I didn't say it very well, but is it understandable?
It seemed to me like E.D. and Steve were spinning this morning too.
i don't think many really vote the polls
Significant evidence over the past few years strongly suggests there is a segment of the voting public that apparently can't even figure out a ballpoint pen. That doesn't bode well for the republic. IMO.
