"The new boundaries zigged, zagged and wiggled into the most bizarre, indefensible configurations" Since this author is obviously new to Texas;
you should've seen what they looked like before.

And the Democrats' power base is very much intact.<<<
Physically intact perhaps, but they are still mentally disenfranchised,

But I thought Republicans were dumb, dumb and dumber...Well...here in California, they are, and it seems they are downright retarded in Illinois.

More of a break-even without redistricting since Hall and Rodney Alexander (Louisiana) switched before the election.

Due to the popularity of the Survivor shows, Texas is planning to do its own, entitled Survivor, Texas Style.
The contestants will start in Dallas, travel to Waco, Austin, San Antonio, over to Houston, and down to Brownsville. They will then proceed up to Del Rio, onto El Paso, then to Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, and Amarillo. From there, they'll proceed to Abilene, Ft. Worth and finally back to Dallas.
Each will be driving a pink Volvo with a bumper sticker that reads, "I'm gay, I'm a vegetarian, I voted for John Kerry, and I'm here to confiscate your guns!"
The first one to make it back to Dallas alive wins!

"The package shamelessly gerrymandered district boundaries to the end of ousting incumbent Democratic congressmen. The new boundaries zigged, zagged and wiggled into the most bizarre, indefensible configurations, but the GOP leadership showed not even a sign of embarrassment. "
Initially, I was offended at the "shamelessly" modifier. Then I realized I feel no shame in it. I wonder if the writer was concerned at previous re-districting efforts designed to increase democrat majorities.
Sometimes it takes a while to right a wrong.

The new boundaries zigged, zagged and wiggled into the most bizarre, indefensible configurations, but the GOP leadership showed not even a sign of embarrassment. The new boundaries aren't any more twisted than the old ones. It's about time the Clear Lake, Webster, League City area was moved out of a district (Nick Lampson) that stretched to Beaumont\Port Arthur.

Where's that "world's smallest violin"?
The insincerity wouldn't annoy me if when they held the reins, they established some non-party political means to draw the lines.
Since they didn't, tough noogies.

I'm curious about the votes for Congress - if it was anywhere near 2:1, then the Dems have nothing to complain about. I do know that "before" the representation of the Republicans in Texas was way under the ratio of Republican to Dem popular votes for Congress. Now it is assuredly closer to the combined votes of all Texans.

LOL!!!!! I got that in an email last week. If they would want to start in Austin, they'd find plenty of gays and lesbos.

Since this author is obviously new to Texas; you should've seen what they looked like before.Exactly! It's okay when Democrats do it. It's a crime when Republicans do it.

So, does that mean we were down 2 in the rest of the land? I think it's even so far. We ousted Baron Hill in Indiana and took over KY-4 when Ken Lucas retired. But lost Phil Crane in Illinois and NY-27 when Jack Quinn retired. There are two races outstanding in Loosiana, one Dem open seat and one GOP open seat, and each race will be competitive in the runoff.

Thanks. I HATE the run-off system in La. Seems like we lose most of the time, at least the Senate seats.
