I am glad to see it being returned to Christian Ethiopia nonetheless how long will it be before the muslim horde overruns all of Ethiopia? If they do they will destroy this 1400 year old trophy of Christianity and any other church or person who does not bow down to the devil named allah.

120 tons in an airplane. Relative to the 20 ton blocks of the Great Pyramid, which we still can't move, uh, hold on a minute. Can I get back to you?

Am I naive in wondering what's wrong with a ship? It's not as if Italy is half way around the world.

Good point. They've tried to destroying biblical places in Israel so they have no regard for anything sacred. I don't think they even care about their own holy places.

Apparently they don't have a harbor anymore.

Hey, if it weren't for Ethiopians, who would be the parking attendents and car wash workers here in Seattle?

There's Kenya but they'd need a really fortified flatbed truck to move that thing or railroad.

Don't know why it was in fragments, probably done by the Italians when they were occupying Ethiopia.

Here are some photos of obelisks that are found in Axum today. This one looks like it shattered when it fell over:

And it looks like this one is leaning:

There are several others that look like they are leaning:

With several of these obelisks leaning in the Axum area, it may indicate that the ground is not suitable for building these structures. It is also possible that the builders did not dig down to the bedrock to lay the foundations.

Great read, BLAM. Next question, does Ethiopia have to give the ARC back to Israel?

That is nice of them.

I like to see works of art in situ if at all possible

I wonder if it's possible to dig them up and then dig down to bedrock to put them back. Probably not. Someone would have done it if it was possible.

Except for that short period in 1937.

Italy had transported the monument by ship in 1937, but Ethiopia's government required that the stele be returned by plane: the only convenient port lies in Eritrea, unfriendly to Ethiopia because of a border war.

This is PC speak. The correct term is Ethiopia cannot use the port because muslims control it and everyone knows muslims will not allow unbelievers to use a body of water that they can control.

Thank God for the war otherwise, they would have gotten used to death and thrown to the side just like most other nations in that area.

Actually you must remember that this is a war ravaged, poverty stricken third world country. They got none of the Marshall Plan dollars to tidy up after WWII. I am amazed at how little we know of the plight of our brothers around the world. GW knows and that is why we are going to set all of mankind free. No more dictators, no more Talibans, no more bs. Let Freedom reign.

I've forgotten a lot of my WW2 history. Good point about the Marshall Plan. I wonder why that is though, probably because US didn't fight there? BTW, you are right about Dubya. The MSM has tried to say he is colonizing Iraq, which isn't true. Even if it was, better to be colonized by America than wahabi islamists. Dubya is a nation builder, teaching people to fish so to speak instead of a liberal handout.
