The liberal press used the Warziristan story to demonstrate our "alleged failure" in the war on terrorism. Think about past reports on that subject...lots of footage of Pakistani troops, accompanied by comments about bin Laden's support in the region and the inability of the U.S. or Pakistan to locate him. The press also liked to mention ties between the ISI (Pakistan's intel service) and UBL. Just one more variation on the "we're losing" theme.

I didn't see Kaisch's program this evening, but the Al Qaida-Iran links bear careful watching. The mullahs in Tehran have little use for UBL's interpretation of the Koran, since it comes from the "wrong" side of Islam. But Al Qaida is a useful tool for Tehran, and they're quite willing to let UBL and his minions do their bidding, just as they've used Hizballah as terrorist "errand boys." It's worth noting--and it's no accident--that the vast majority of Al Qaida fighters entering Iraq have come through Iran, following well-established infiltration routes that can be traced all the way to Warziristan.

Notice that John Kerry campaigned on the idea that Bin Laden was in Waziristan and that it would be a simple matter to just go in and pick him up.

So, where did Kerry get his news? Was he coordinating his campaign with AlQaida or what.

no way they "combed the region" in my opinion. Bodansky says that OBL is living as part of a regular family in Pakistan - he has no security apparatus around him, no huge # of guard, no convoys of vehicles moving him around, nothing that would attract attention. this is why the Paks can't find him.

...Mansoor has made some pretty good predictions in the past....

He (Mansoor) has about as good a picture as anybody on how the terrorists move money and recruit people. At times he can be very enlightening to listen to. Plus, he's a business man and he knows terror is bad for business in any country.

I hope that Pakistan does not relax in the war on terror. That would not be a good thing.

In spite of how they manage the data they have access to, it is better data.
Doesn't mean they're omnicient.

All Agencies in the Intelligence Community get PART of their RAW Intelligence from newspapers. After that, they verify in order to have some basic data for analysis.

bin Laden is definately in Iran

Considering what Bin Laden was wearing in his last pre-election video I tend to believe this. He looked almost like an Iranian mullah in the way he was dressed. But I just do not understand why the heavily Shia government of Iran would welcome a Wahabi Sunni Muslim into their country. Of course, when did the Islamic world make any sense to any of us.

I just don't believe that Osama would stay in Pakistan. Some of the people there are sympathetic to him, but there are also plenty who are logal to Musharaf. And it only takes one Musharaf loyal who happens to see the wrong thing and who could give away his position. He would not risk it, and I don't believe he could stay there undetected for 3 years. Same with Afghanistan. I think its more likely that he's in Iran, or possibly Indonesia.

I just remember every few months he goes on Fox, makes a prediction, everybody goes gaga over it, and it never happens. It may be thats the nature of the shadowy world of the Middle East, but it also makes it a fruitful region for so-called experts to make predictions.

Seems the world over time and time again uses "Al Qaida" types to keep themselves hidden.

Iran would be taking a huge risk to harbor him - if it ever was revealed, US public opinion would support any and all kinds of military action to get him - and we wouldn't need to sugar coat it with this "liberation" stuff.

Didn't we have Al-Zawahiri cornered at one point?

Not that I have ever heard of.

If Bin Laden had succeeded in holding onto Afghanistan he'd be telling everybody he was the Mahdi.

Depending on which brand of Islam you are into that Mahdi is going to be the nth reincarnation of Ali, the man whose death created the Shia/Sunni dichotomy.

"W" made sure the Mahdi didn't reincarnate. Still, some of the mullahs in Iran are holding out for hope against hope.

"The mullahs in Tehran have little use for UBL's interpretation of the Koran, since it comes from the "wrong" side of Islam."

He's in Iran. Combined with the fact that in his last video..he used no Koran verses. And mentioned no religous references. He was dressed more like a Shiite.

We did and missed him in an early morning strike. We hit the wrong house in Falluja.

Mansoor has been notable for his absence lately. Anyone have an idea where he has been?

He started showing back up on Fox about a week ago.

Not sure where he went. He goes to the Middle East for a month or two..then comes back and reports his findings.
