I agree with your post that Bodansky seems to be underestimating our security awareness. But he also is underestimating the response by the Arab Muslim nations themselves. Although they are not aligned with us, they are aware of the consequences of American retaliation if they are seen as part of another attack on the U.S. I think the correct computer term is "Falluja-ification."
I get the impression that Syria is "more cooperative" than previously. Also, the Saudi's are closer with us on the issue of security. Certainly they're not in our camp, but they aren't blatantly supporting the terrorists as they were before, in fact, they are arresting them. Pakistan is also doing a better job.
All the previous factors, except illegal immigration, are being addressed well.
The only thing that supports Bodansky's position is the Arab Muslim's Wahabi-ism and the related rabid, anti-civilization irrationality that comes with it. I see them flailing in a low tech way, not leading a sophisticated attack at this time.
I guess we can "blame" our increased preparedness on Bush, and maybe Bodansky's just plugging a soon to be published book, or trolling for speaking engagements.
