Don't tell me... Mel Brooks is going to direct the next Bond flick. Would you believe... that Mel has already been down that road, sort of? He and Buck Henry thought up Get Smart.

Both in the novels and in the films, Bond IS WHITE
hmmm.. he IS a fictional character. The books have all been used up and now the movies are not based on the books. Gives them care-blanche to change some bits about the character. Remember that Sean Connery didn't play the true Bond character as per the book (a pretty dark, almost pyschotic killer at times -- read Dr. No), but it was great. This guy may be black, but if he can play a suave, debonair character, why NOT? It IS a 40 year old series after all.

Well, He WASN't White OR Black -- He was brown. And neither Indo-European or Negroid -- He was SEmitic on His mother's side.....

A female Jenny Bond? Possibly -- can they match the character's ethos? Yes, but GArner's the closest yet doesn't quite come across as a hard-nosed killer type. Maybe Brigitte Fonda?

Never Say Never again IS a remake of Thunderball. It was the only book that wasn't 'owned' by Broccoli.

Yeah, kind of weird when the only Indian character most folks seem to know back home in the states is the Apu character. Which isn't bad as one of the types of Indians -- you know, extremely hard-working, very family oriented, very intelligent etc. say, if I had to think which characters on the Simpson's would be Republican, I'd say Apu would be most definitely Republican -- he isn't asking for a hand-out or a quota

A distinguished black man with an english accent doesn't bother me and don't think it's out of the ordinary. BTW, it's a shame that Apu is the most popular Indian in America but oh well his character is great. Two out of three ain't bad.

Bond movies have sucked since the 60's anyway, so what the hell.

OKAY OKAY ... AM I THE ONLY WOMAN WHO LIKED TIMOTHY DALTON OR WHAT??????
No, I love Timothy Dalton, too, but Sean Connery is the only real James Bond. Sorry.

I agree. I never saw the Bond films when I was young. I was being a good spouse and watched "Thunderball" with my husband. Whoa, that Sean Connery is mega-sexy. Of course, I had already gathered that from "Highlander" and some other films, but with the Bond persona he just smolders.

Ian Flemming's original material is stored in the Lilly Library archives of Indiana University. Many years ago I spent a summer going through all of it and reading all the original editions. I'd like to take a look when I'm up there next
I seem to remember that Flemming was appalled that a Scott (Sean Connery) was going to play Bond
his views on other ethnicities and religions were expressed rather completely
This Black Bond would have put him over the top

I hear they'll offer the job to Kim Jong-Il if he gives up North Korea's nuclear program.
And Miss Moneypenny will be played by Suha Arafat.

Bring back Connery, there's a new direction. Don't know if he's in a wheelchair just yet. But they could bring HIM back as Bond, Jim Bond, and have another actor work as his lackey falling off bridges and free falling without a parachute - and stuff.
James Bond not as secret agent, but now Bilderberger mastermind. Maybe Bond should get a lap-cat, too.
