There have been stories of "brontosaurs" too. If something is still living, there must be fresh remains somewhere. Even droppings from predators should show something.

Homo floresiensis ("Man of Flores") is a newly described species in the genus Homo, remarkable for its small body, small brain, and recent survival, thought to have been contemporaneous with modern humans (Homo sapiens) on the remote Indonesian island of Flores. Seven skeletons and associated stone tools were discovered on Flores in 2003.

Flores has been described (in the journal Nature) as "a kind of Lost World", where archaic animals, elsewhere long extinct, had evolved into giant and dwarf forms through allopatric speciation. The island had dwarf elephants (a species of Stegodon, the recent ancestor of the Indian Elephant) and giant lizards akin to the Komodo dragon, as well as H. floresiensis, which can be considered a species of dwarf human. The discoverers have called members of the diminutive species hobbits, after J.R.R. Tolkien's fictional race of roughly the same height. In the island's mythology there were common references to Ebu Gogo a small furry man.

>>A Dutch palaeontologist, Dr Gert van den Bergh, a member of the team, was first shown the cave at a distance more than a decade ago, after hearing folk tales of the Ebu Gogo, which means "grandmother who eats everything".

>In the island's mythology there were common references to Ebu Gogo a small furry man.

I won't make any comparisons between "small furry creatures with indistinguishable genders" and certain famous lefties.

While the search for more bones is being planned, a political furore has broken out after a leading Indonesian palaeoanthropologist - with no connection to the find - last week "borrowed" all the delicate remains from six hobbits found at Liang Bua against the wishes of local and Australian team members.

"Confusticate and bebother these Indonesian palaeoanthropologists!" he said aloud.

However, he said Professor Jacob had signed an agreement to return all the bones by January 1.

Some how I don't think so.

Let's see, the village people were full of it when they spoke of these people, but then they found remains.

Now those same villagers claim to have captured one for a time, but once again they are full of it.

Seems to me the scientists are the ones who are full of it. Ego that is.

"Hobbits" are fictional beings created for a fantasy novel.

These people are pygmies.
