I see. But, in the end, does it really matter? Not to the school, probably. And not to most people, would it? Suppose someone wants to give you a great gift. All they ask is that you acknowledge it...this is what I consider these large gifts to schools.
OTOH, schools are not obliged to accept gifts. They can always refuse.
Not unlike some churches I've been in that have "this pew a gift from Mrs. x" or something like that.

It doesn't matter in the slightest, except to purists like me who believe in education for its own sake and not to glorify the works of man.
And for provoking argument, it can't be beat! ;)
