There's a very good reason most Mexicans can't prosper: the people running Mexico don;t want them to prosper. The status quo is that a small group of wealthy people run the country. Why should they change the status quo?

Well when you hit your knees tonight you can thank God that we haven't had another terrorist attack in America since 9/11 because "leaving the back door open" is certainly not what any sane person would do had their home been BOMBED and members of their family been MURDERED on 9/11!

Semper Fi,
Kelly

To append to my previous post, it seems to me that most people just want the existing laws enforced. The biggest question I have, regardless of whether it is about the Bush plan or the Tancredo plan or whatever plan is this: If the will is not there to enforce the existing laws, how will passing more laws help?

Exactomundo!
Now it's time for Vicente Fox to resolve his problems instead of dumping them on us!
I'm sure God gave Vicente Fox a set of testicles...
time for him to prove it!

I don't know how you can make that statement , as nobody has seen any concrete language on Bush's proposal. All Bush has done is lay out guidelines. The philosophy articulated by Bush..."family values don't stop at the border"..."jobs Americans wont do", when coupled with the fact that the present border security and enforcement that we have is inadequate, gives people a bad bad feeling.

Check out the comparison table posted by nodolli, it shows the differences between the various proposals that are presently ON THE TABLE.

access" as a guest worker? Come on...

You said..."start enforcing the immigration laws ALREADY ON THE BOOKS "

I agree wholeheartedly.

I and others have argued logically, that you cannot institute ANY guest worker bill if you have inadequate border security and enforcement. Out present border situation is woefully underfunded and undermanned. Without a system of enforcement, it is senseless to institute new laws.

Repost of mine from the other day, regarding a homicide hit and run illegal.

"Is this hit and run guy the type you would want as an employee?
NO

Does this person most likely have a job skill and a sponsor who would invite him into the country as a guest worker?
NO

Will this person and others like him come into this country even after a guest worker bill is passed, with the ENFORCEMENT SYSTEM AND SECURITY WE HAVE NOW?
YES"

"Returning to their home country to apply." may appease the anti-Mexican crowd, but it won't make much difference to the illegals from Mexico. They go back to Mexico regularly anyway for Christmas, funerals, birthdays etc...

But for the ones from China or Lebanon it might not be possible.

So more Mexicans will have to come over to replace the Asian illegals.

Sometimes to get what you want in politics you ask for things you really don't want. Then you end up with what you wanted in the first place. Only it was someone elses idea. Who cares.

It's funny but Tancredo's plan isn't that dissimilar from what President Bush has proposed and yet certain people will trash the President at every opportunity but in the same line they will elevate Tancredo to the level of a god.

It's as different as night and day, you are disengenious or uninformed......Presidente Bush needs to be aware of how the people feel...not just those that exploit the illegals...

I use the analogy of health insurance policy.

Every policy is different. The amount of coverage you get depends on the money you spend.

We will never get 100% coverage at the border, but we can get much much higher if we use all of our assets efficiently.

This includes fences in certain high traffic areas, smart sensors and recon assets all networked together, adequate manpower to act on the sensors, and last but most importantly, manpower and detention facilities to process and hold the individuals we catch till they can be deported.

"Has Delay blinked?"

Not at all, if one applies from one's home country then they are not illegal. This is excellent, but I would like to hear more about Enforcement. Enforcement real emforcement is the key.

"enforcement?"
Heck, I don't think this crowd we have in D.C. knows how to even spell it! LOL

I understand they're building "Undocumented Alien Information Centers" along the border just so everyone feels right at home when they come across!

It still doesn't penalize or punish people for entering and remaining illegally. It still rewards them for doing so. Do we enforce our laws or not? That is the question.
