From a class that did not toss chairs ?
ESPN Classics is showing this game tomorrow at 3pm and 11pm easterm time.
Since Woody's last coaching year was 1978. I think Art Schlitzer (sp?) was a freshman that year and he played a little pro ball. Tom Cousineau had an OK career. After Woody was fired the next year the team went 11-0 and went to the Rose Bowl. I think a few players from that team played in the NFL.
Keady is many times worse.
Your little story isn't true. In fact, the LSU fan later admitted to starting the fight. Knight is a big guy... why the student wanted to fight with him I think can be blamed on alcohol.
Keedy is a great guy, Bobby is just a self absorbed jerk. Gene has yet to shoot anyone in the back (literally).
I have seen Keady at times look like he needed a distemper shot.
Oh please! Keady was 10 times more profane than Knight. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I like coaches who push the envelope. Just don't go making Keady out to be a saint, because he's not.
It is not Bobby's sideline antics that got him in trouble. It is everything else, especially his reatment of the players during practice. Well that and the shooting, the kicking, getting thrown out of a country, and of course the chair throwing.
I suppose you have heard him?
LOL
From a school that didn'tthrow chairs, namely Purdue. John Wooden is the only All American player to win NCAA Basketball Championships as both player and coach.
If I recall..it was an alumn..and a tiny man..not a student...the man merely said..."Good game.." or something like that..the Philadelphia police were called in and psycho was all bravo..the LSU fan said let's drop it..which is sad..just fed into the nutcase ego..
With a voice like his, he is hard to miss!
I'll never forget his antics in the Final Four against my beloved LSU Tigers. He slammed the phone on the scorers table with about 7 minutes left in the game. Indiana got EVERY CALL for the remainder of the game and the refs swallowed the whistle at our offensive end. It was the most INFURIATING thing I've ever seen.
He knew he had gotten away with one. That game was STOLEN from LSU in the final minutes.

Mookie Wilson:
Hit the ball that Bill Buckner booted in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.
Al Downing:
Downing threw the pitch that Hank Aaron hit out of the park to record his 715th home run, breaking Babe Ruth's record.
Keedy is certainly not passive and certainly emotional to say the least. No one however has ever accused him of being abusive or out of control. The one thing that always amazed during the Purdue IU games was the tranformation in the crowd at Purdue whenever Bobby showed up.
For the Most part the fans at Purdue were enthusiatic, but respectful. I remember when Louisville showed up in '80. They were so much fun to watch we cheered when the McCrays performed one of their patented Alley Oops. We lost by one point and they went on to win the NCAA.
When Bobby came to town the crowd got downright nasty and ugly. Everytime Bobby stood up there where catcalls and booing.
Gene Keedy has a ready smile and sincere warm manner about him at least that was my impression of him the times we crossed paths.
Did he actually use profanity or did he just lay into someone?
