"How would you improve the public schools?"

As a parent I became involved with my kid's school early and often. My family volunteered at the school and gained the trust of those who ran them and worked from the inside to let our wishes be known and influence how they were run....including involvement as members of the PTA.

I have been a delegate to my party's conventions several times, as well as other involvements and voiced my concerns on that level.

I recently became aware of wwww.achieve.com who is a part of this weeks gov's conference on education. I think they're on the right track and offer some solid ideas for improvement. Without writing a book I would suggest you visit their website and see what positive steps need to be taken....see what you think.

I think kicking the NEA to the curb would be a way to begin. In my state, they fight tooth and nail against any improvement or change in the public schools -- even if that change or improvement would elevate teachers' status in the long run.
