If you installed SP2 for your XP, that could be your problem. Try running Win 9x and see if that solves your problems, or just uninstall SP2 and see if that works.
Norton is junk. Try eAcceleration "Stopsign" It's very, very good. http://www.eacceleration.com
I finally Threw my NSW in the closet and use Norton Anti virus Corporate edition and it works fine on both my AMD and Intel (Windows ME and Windows 98), I don't like XP.

Don't hold your breath. I've had problems with NSW on Intel. They were easier to deal with than McAfee, but still had them.
You'd think that these guys would focus on putting out a product that works instead of putting out a product with 15 extra add-on programs that most people don't need.
Maybe they should stop outsourcing to India?
What version of NSW are you using? Is it XP compatible? I got a big surprise when I installed XP and had to ditch my NSW 2001.
Also, do you have a previous version of NSW on your computer? I've had some bad experience trying to install NSW if there was as little as a single file remaining from a previous installation.
It's never been my experience that the micro-P had any affect on the applications, but I suppose it can happen.
Yes sorry...aimed at the wrong guy!!

Another thumbs down on Norton System Works. It's too unstable.
Listen to the advice from Ladysmith in post 13. AVG, Spybot and Ad-Aware.

However there is some functionality I would still like to have.
I manually removed all references to "Symantec", "Norton", and "NSW" from my registry; removed all traces of files from the PC and NSW 2005 STILL will not install.

Amen to that! Norton has some serious issues. Any company that can't get their own firewall to work with their own A/V suite cannot be trusted.
I have never owned an Intel PC. Every computer of mine has always been AMD.
That said, I have used previous versions of System Works on both Intel and AMD systems and found no differences in Norton's performance.
I'm not sure what may be causing your issues but I feel pretty confident that it's not a processor issue.
This may not apply to you but I have seen machines imaged with Ghost exhibit very strange symptoms if the HALs are different from the host machine.
Any messages when install fails?
My computer works better and I won't go back.
ONLY problem I have is that Norton tells me it found a virus and got rid of it. But when I click OK it pops back up to tell me about it again, and again, and again, and again, and ag...........
"my experience with four AMD systems over several years is that I've never had software not work and the systems have all been very dependable and stable."
Ditto for me. And they run a lot cooler. My most recent is a 64 bit AMD Athlon.
I built my AMD 64 bit Athlon 3400+ system last April.
It has very good performance even using only 32 bit programs. I downloaded MS 64 bit beta OS but never did anything with it.
Are you running any 64 bit programs? If so, any comments or observations?
I haven't run anything 64 bit as yet. Waiting for Longhorn I suppose. It defintely runs better and faster than my P4 machine and as I said, does not inflict third degree burns on anything that touches the case.
Install it and dual boot. It's kinda cool to play with.
I had a similar problem. Norton stinks for me.
It slowed down my ability to click hyperlinks in emails. It would take a full minute or two to launch the browser. I uninstalled Norton and it is back to normal now.
Don't have enough bad things to say about McAfee. Spent a couple of hours on the phone with the Indians with Symantec. Mildly happy with Symantec but 100% more happy than I was with McAfee (Those bXXtards never got back to me once I went to level 2 problems.
The AMD system isn't the problem. Something else is going on. I haven't used an Intel system for my personal machine since maybe a 386 or 486 and I have never had any compatibility issues.
I am also a computer consultant and recommend AMD systems to all of my clients.
