The Greeks did not like mating with others. That does not prove anything, but I can imagine them keeping them gene pool Greek. Alexander the Great's men were appalled at his willingness to mix with other races.

Has this man ever met a Greek woman? They're not exactly known for being overwhelmingly blonde. Those are Greek women of today who are essentially Slavs who have moved into the area from the north. Would you argue that Pocahantas must look like today's coeds at Virginia Tech? Most North Americans of 2000 years ago do not resemble most North Americans today (though some do) and most Greeks of 2000 years ago do not resemble most Greeks of today (though some do).

I did not realize that Greeks were blonde.

Ive been to Greece and the folks there have dark hair. Outside of Greece, I have never met a blond Greek. The people of a place change over time. It's like saying that Pocahantas could not have resembled her historical description because you have been to Virginia and most Virginians are fairly European looking. The key is that you haven't been to the Greece of 2000 years ago, you went to present day Greece -- which is not peopled by the same groups as were there then.

Cleopatra was in fact a blonde. Thats because she was not Egyptian.
The ancient Egyptians had considerable cosmetological skills and bleaching naturally dark hair to blonde using natural products such as lemon juice would not be an unreasonable assumption.

Well, I don't need any convincing.
There is no way that the current "Egyptians" could be responsible for the classic wonders of Egypt.

Here's a bust of her made at the time she was alive -- so presumably it is accurate.

It is believed that the early Greeks were blond. My friend and all his cousins were blond at birth, and became dark haired by 12.
The Sphinx is not a lion's body, but most like a dog's body. I support the idea of the Dog Star Sirius and the Sphinx being in honor of the star.
The Sphinx and Great Pyramids are most likely 10,000 b.c. or greater and have nothing to do with historical Egypt.

"Has this man ever met a Greek woman? They're not exactly known for being overwhelmingly blonde" I know lots of blonde greeks. More importantly, Alexander was described as fair skined and blonde. Power in those days was usually inbred too, so it is likely that she was blonde, and in those days most women were large, the degradation of the human race into scrawny camel-legged wisps came during the dark ages.

I take it there were NO Macedonians with dark hair. Does someone have a lock of her hair that I don't know about?

Cleo on the right - she's no. 1. The two guys are Big Al the Great and just behind him, Little Caesar.

So were are we headed? Australia. 2,000 years from now, archaeologists will wonder how the dams, aqueducts & freeways were built in California.
These debates about our border are completely futile. Never once in history has a civilisation been able to overcome the greater number of people who for whatever reason have decided that they want to live there as well.

An interesting article. Thanks for the ping. Democracy in Egypt would be something new under the sun.
Though I doubt that anyone living today knows the color of Cleopatra's hair, I have seen reproductions of Egyptian tomb paintings in which some individuals obviously have light hair.
