Might have been 1978 or thereabouts but that was before you moved up.

I thought with the breeze coming off the ocean there would be no time when the weather would be truly too hot to be reasonably comfortable.

I think so. 3 or 4 stories high. That place is like a slum. Especially for the prices.

Great fun. I used to have their "DownEast" album. Met some folks hanging around the candlepin alleys who really talked thataway.

Relax, I was kidding that fellow.

I can't stand cities, myself.

And from everything I've heard--the good and the bad,-- well, no state is perfect, but your state comes closest.

Didn't W get 1 electoral vote out of Maine last year?

yeah - and we only have 2 - so that's 50%...so remember that there are 'red' folk up here too - particularly the old Mainers - about 1 out of 4 of the "flatlanders" fit right in with us - the rest are libs that deliberately move in, get on city councils, dem party committees, etc.

Most of them thankfully, are down Portland way - kinda like Calif: the southern end is lib haven, the northern is 'real' people - and we don't have hillbillies, thank you -(forget who said it) - We do have our share of straight-shooting, pickup driving rednecks...most of 'em good ole salt of the earth folk that will come running should you ever need help. (When you live in the country, ya gotta have a pickup for hauling stuff - and four wheel drives to get up the drive in the winter...or to the village store. The libs - who live in city townhouses with public trans and no long country roads, just do not see why anyone should have a - gasp - four wheel drive vehicle!)

Florida is no treat in July. I remember stepping out of the terminal and thought the humidity sucked all the oxygen away. I asked a local when the temperature would moderate. He saie about the 3rd week of October.

LOL

I hear that! I have kids living down there too - I'd rather be confined to my house in the winter, with my toes on the wood stove, a nice friendly fire going, than stuck inside in the summer with the air conditioner. :O)

Me either.  Especially since 9-11.

Nooooo Maine is by far perfect.  Well, the state itself is beautiful.  But it's the government that stinks it up.

Um...Maine has 2 electoral votes!? That's quite a trick since the bare minimum is 3 for any state in the union. The District of Columbia also has 3. In actual fact Maine has 4 electoral votes and Kerry won them all btw.
