No, the damage was done when those f'n idiots disgraced the uniform and their country with their half-assed Torquemada routine. The pictures just let the rest of us in on what sort of numbskullery they were up to.
No, I don't think you get it. I was not implying that is correct to behave badly. In case you didn't notice, we're fighting a war. These soldiers have lost fellow comrades, and perhaps family and friends. Ever think that Lynndie England enjoyed it because of what those animals did to Jessica Lynch and Lori Piestowa? Of course it still doesn't make it right, but I can understand the concept of paybacks.
Imagine if the shoe were on the other foot. Instead of Iraqi terrorists being the prisoners, they were the captors of Coalition forces. It wouldn't be half-assed Torquemada techniques; think car batteries and the family jewels. Talk about getting off on torture, these sand gremlins wrote the book on it.

I would have to agree with you. That muslim who rolled a grenade into a tent, shouldn't been in the military either. What we have is a big problem. Recruiters are desperate to sign up anyone who can see and stand on two legs. We do have the best and the fittest volunteering for duty, but what about the ones who no longer have a mind numbing production line to look forward to? Join the military, that's the ticket out of poverty!
Lynndie, and a thousand like her, are a product of modern America. They should have been quietly weeded out, but then who do you replace them with? More defectives? I think it wasn't so much as being oxygen deprived at birth, as it could have been an abusive childhood. It's weird, but you either turn into an abuser, or end up being further abused. It might have explained her behavior. Most of us know when to say "enough"!
I really wish people would quit disparaging trailers. Some of them look like real houses on the inside.

The pictures of her smiling don't look so bad, almost cute in fact. However most of the ones we've seen has her looking pretty somber.
She definitely has chipmonk cheeks, but I think if you look at a whole body picture, you'll see for a woman who recently had a baby, she's still fairly slim. (photo below is from today, after the mistrial was declared)
And some thing Lynde was hit with an ugly stick. She's sleeping beauty next to the gal on the right who is part of her defense team. At least I hope that's a gal.
Popular myth. The vast majority come from middle class backgrounds. Even the members from minority groups, although there they tend to be lower middle class. The poor join gangs. Officers tend to come from the middle class as well, perhaps with a bit of shading towards the upper end, but not much.
Most of the officers I know, especially those who were not formerly enlisted members, come from what those around here that are so quick to denigrate others, might call the wimp or egghead classes. Very few Captain America types, not all that many jocks, although a few.

She'd already pleaded guilty, this was during the punishment phase, when any extenuating circumstances are taken into account. Of course the judge then threw out her guilty plea, based on the testimony of her sperm doner, and declared a mistrial. And the judge did the right thing based on a UCMJ provision, which I just looked up earlier today.

Thank you! I look EXACTLY like she does in my Basic Training Photo. I had been up for about 48 hours straight, in an environment that was totally foreign to me (a 17 year old white farm girl!) and scared to DEATH of my Drill Sergeants at that point in time. They take those photos about 1 week into your training. Every Soldier/Sailor/Air Force/Marine/Coast Guard puke can attest to that.
Now...as far as Abu G. goes, I think she's being scapegoated. I don't deny that this has been a terrible blight on the reputation of our military because we hold ourselves to the Highest Standard possible, but Puh-leeze.
When held up against ANY military force in the world, we still rock. We're still the most compassionate when it comes to winning wars and killing the enemy. ;)
Let's not lose sight of the fact that it was a soldier working at Abu G. that saw something wrong and reported it to his Commander and it went up and down the Chain of Command from here. The military could've totally covered this up, but they didn't. They found the guilty and punished them; I'm just not sure this girl should be carrying this large of a sentencing burden.
I've known plenty of military personally that were not "firing on all cylinders." In an All Volunteer force you're going to get Einsteins and you're going to get Gomers.
