Not only is smoking during pregnancy linked to a host of problems, they are also finding that children whose GRANDMOTHER smoked during pregnancy have an increased risk of asthma. It isn't only your kids you are screwing up.
To: Kozak
Infants born to women who smoke during pregnancy have a lower average birth weight and are more likely to be small for gestational age than infants born to women who do not smoke. Low birth weight is associated with increased risk for neonatal, perinatal, and infant morbidity and mortality. The longer the mother smokes during pregnancy, the greater the effect on the infants birth weight. Oh really? My daughter weighed in at 8 12 pounds and was 21.5 inches long. And I smoked before, during and after my pregnancy. Strange, eh?
Plus I took aspirin and I had a social drink now and then. Sure blows a hole in YOUR theory!!!
And oh yes! I breast fed my baby for 6 months. No problems!

My daughter has NO asthma. In fact she also smokes and works out 3-4 times a week since she was a teen. She is now 33.

horse hockey. these studies are done by extreme libs with foregone conclusions and stat manipulation. tons of govenment studies have reversed their conclusions with time, i.e. the fat study just reversed.... (which was probably originally produced by skinny people who don't like looking at fat people).
i don't put much faith in any study.

Heheh! A lot of men find pregnant women hot. :)That's a good thing for us weeble-wobbles, lol!
On topic...my mother smoked off and on with all three of us kids, and all of us are rather disgustingly healthy. Usually, lol. I am once again nursing a cold...ugh.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all FReeper Moms!

And as with most of these other studies, I call it balderdash.
Were you aware that there is a 65% increased risk of lung cancer for milk drinking folks than those who don't? The increased risk for lung cancer from shs is only 19%.

While it seems to be the conventional wisdom, no diseases are directly caused by smoking.
