Thanks...I hope I feel better soon, too. Spring colds are the worst, aren't they?
I'm sorry you haven't heard from your daughter yet...but I bet you will soon. I waited until around 11:00am to call my mom...who was on the line with her mom! LOL
Of course it's not the healthiest of lifestyles - but in my mind these studies are just a waste of time, money and energy that could be better used elsewhere.
Jax has been amazingly angelic for me today - even the muddy clothes didn't bother me, because she told me about them and took them off and put them in the laundry room without my saying anything :)
I agree with that.
I'm just bloody sick and tired of them claiming every disease known to man is caused by smoking or exposure to second hand smoke.
they have gotten to the point they are so ridiculous as to be losing any possible credibility they ever had.
Apparently your tagline isn't completely correct then ;~D
I agree. I am 35, my mother smoked during her pregnancy. I'd wager to bet most mother's in my age bracket did. The dangers were not as widely known or believed and it was vogue.
I have a friend who smokes, like I do (I'm no anti-smoking nazi) and she smoked some, and drank a little for that matter, throughout her whole pregnancy. She rationalized it, actually said "if it leads to a little bit lower birthweight, that's a good thing, right?" Well, I've never given birth either, and the size would intimidate me too... but to rationalize smoking and drinking, instead of doing the best you can do to live healthy, is nothing but selfishness.
ROFL!!!!!!!!!
I'm 45 and my mother also smoked during both her pregnancies, and I agree that most did back then.
I did stop drinking when I suspected I was pregnant, and cut back on my smoking. My OB's attitude was to cut back more on the smoking, but she did not believe is forcing anyone to do it, she felt the pregnancy was stressful enough and there was no reason to add anymore stress.
My 20th HS class reunion was taking place when I was 8 months pregnant and she even told me to treat myself to a glass of wine or 2.
Were we right or wrong? I don't have an answer to that question. I followed the doctor's instructions and everything came out just peachy.
Smoking increases your risk of miscarriage by 30-50%. If you're okay with increasing the odds of killing off your kid in order to possibly prevent them from later breast cancer, go for it.
And your numbers come from where?
Numerous studies. Look.
My friend drank much more regularly than 'one or two because it's your reunion'. And she cut back but didn't quit smoking. Everything appears to be fine... but rationalizing away the risks and actually championing pregnant smoking because of some reduction in breast cancer is over the top.
I've read them all and none come near being statistically significant.
YOu haven't looked very hard then.
I agree with you and I put about as much credence in this "study" as the ones that claim smoking increases the risk of breast cancer.
Sorry it took me so long to reply - the dog got loose again :(
Anything under an RR of 2.00, better yet 3.00 is statistically insignificant. Your 30-50% numbers translate into RRs of 1.30-1.50 - neither of which are statistically significant.
Pregnant women who smoke are fair-odds abortionists. Spin it as you like.
