Probably won't work. Oregon law dictates that only attendants at gas stations can work the pumps thus allowing them to track all sales and report anyone doing this.

Hmmmm...On one hand Oregon wants to adapt California style automobile emission laws but on the other hand tax unfairly the cars that would release the least emissions. I don't think this will ever become law. If people can't save money by buying a small car or hybrid they won't do it.

We've yapping about this silly tax idea the dingbats in Salem thought up.

The general concensus is that if the legislature does try to institute such a dumbfool idea, we will instantly overturn it by initiative petition.

The whole idea is complicated and unweildy as well as expensive to administrate since there will be different rates for different roads and counties (!) depending on whether it urban or rural and if you are driving a farm truck, blah, blah, blah.

This was mostly just a pork barrel study project for the University and to justify the jobs of a coven of bureaucrats. I don't believe for a minute that the majority of state senators and reps think this is a politically viable idea.
