I heard Rush today talking about this - Fortas was the first judge in which a fillibuster was used; HOWEVER, it was a bipartisan fillibuster (as you said) and it was in opposition of his promotion to Chief Justice (he was already on the SCOTUS). The 1st partisan fillibuster was against Miquel Estrada.

She is complaining about the hispanics, blacks, and women nominees that didn't get passed in the Clinton years---
BUT, the nominees that are black, hispanic and women that Bush sent up are not acceptable....
They are making sure we know that EVERY SINGLE CBC member signed the letter....IOW, no brave people breaking ranks like the reps want our rinos to do....

Goodnight to everyone who's hit the hay! Insomnia is starting to kick in so I'm still here. I don't think I've laughed while typing before today.

I just heard on FOX that Byrd and Warner have put forth a plan to assemble a pool of names of judges that the President could choose from that would meet any resistance in the Judicial Committee and would be guaranteed an up or down vote...
I don't like it

They don't get to dictate who the prez nominates. That is not a compromise. Warner is in deep doo-doo if this is true.

That whole Idea would deminish the power of the Executive to choose the judges he wants. He would have to get approval before he could nominate

What a stupid idea. Give Dems the chance to obstruct right up front in a patchouli filled room where 'acceptable' candidates are chosen. If the Repubs don't have the guts to stand up to the Dems on the floor of the Senate they surely are not going to stand up to them in deciding who is "acceptable".
To: Fudd Fan
Can you imagine the fights over who gets on the list?

First of all, I don't understand why there are all these "compromise" meetings going on. Are they really, or is the MSM playing fast-and-loose with facts- and/or are demonRATs leaking false stuff? Lotsa possibilities.
