Obviously, the Federal programs need to be re-worked. It isn't Wal-Mart's fault that US government is filled with idiotic socialists.

So if the government decides that everyone should have a Lexus and decides to give one to everyone who doesn't have one, Walmart should immediately buy every employee a Lexus? Otherwise, the price of the Lexus comes from 'our taxes'.
What about those 'poor unfortunate Mom and Pop stores' that can't afford to buy their employees a Lexus. Should Walmart buy Mom and Pops employees a Lexus too?

And the people who work for the mom and pop stores that they allegedly replace probably make less wages, work less hours and have less benefits than Wal Mart employees.
I find it utterly amazing that a company that exploits its workers so visciously can get so damn many people to work there when there are so many high paying hamburger flipping jobs that are being eagerly filled by illegal aliens.

I have worked for other large companies in the US that had fewer (read zero) benefits, even for management. Wal-Mart is not alone in this.
Since when did benefits become mandatory? They are incentives to draw better employees. $$ work as well.

If there is any truth about the woman who got laid off one day shy of her bonus, then Wal-Mart is not worthy of any employee loyalty.

Unfortunately Wal-Mart is one of the many corporations which started as a caring organization and a great work place, where employees were happy and received great benefits. But this was while the founding Sam Walton was alive and lived by different principles than today's WalMart CEO. Another company which comes to mind is Publix Supermarket (well known in the SE) which also was named year after year in the top 10 companies to work for because of pay, benefits and employee perks. But then the founder died also (George Jenkins) and the whole mentality of Publix when it came to its employees totally changed. I understand it is the need for profit which drives these corporations but the drive cannot be sustained properly if the employees are not treated right. So many wonderful people founded wonderful workplaces which, after their demise, transformed into profit-only driven entities. It is sad indeed and it is not what true capitalism is about where profit is the only thing that matters,

If someone doesn't like what Walmart pays and the kinds of benefits they have they can always find another job. That option is there. I'm so tired of hearing people complain about Walmart.
I love having a variety of places to shop for groceries. It creates competition and lower prices. Whoever has the product I want at the lowest price gets my business around here.
