Wait until we all plug our cars in to recharge,,,I always wonder what most people think when they say electric vehicles will be environmentally friendly. Most who want electric vehicles are also those who are against nuclear electricity. Without nukes, electricity (save a small percentage of hydro/solar/wind) will be generated with a generator powered by combustion.
If we try to go to total hydro/solar/wind electricity, not only will electricity become oppressively expensive, I'm sure the greens will come up with some other crisis about how these new power generators are ruining the environment or killing some little endangered bugs.

We picked out two new plasma HDTVs yesterday also! How much more electricity can they POSSIBLY use? By the way, we went to a local audio/Video store to pick what we wanted, then went to bestbuyplasma.com (not related to the horrible Best Buy Store) and saved almost $4,000!!!! Check it out if you're seriously in the market!

What do you do with a 60" tv when it dies? Hire someone to get rid of it?

That reminds me of a story my roommate in college told me. She was interning for her Social work major. She went along on a ride to check on a welfare home. The people were complaining they needed more money in order to buy their baby a crib. My friend asked, "where does the baby sleep now?" The reply? "In the box from our new TV set!"
that's a true story.

My friend asked, "where does the baby sleep now?" The reply? "In the box from our new TV set!" That's funny but I don't doubt for a moment that it is true. And the new TV probably wound up in a pawn shop in short time.

"I still want a HDTV widescreen though! They are just plain cool!" Check out DLP HD Projectors. You can get one around 600 - 700 dollars and an 8 foot screen for about 200 bucks.
The picture quality is unbelievable

They're so thin these days, they're just not that heavy. we just saw a 70" yesterday. It was FABULOUS! Except the pricetag, which was $13,000!

Call me old skool, but my 27" set sufficiently provides all the entertainment and news I need.Once you've watched HD you will find it difficult to go back. Stay away from it, it's really too kewl to live without.

Here's an interesting perspective. A guy in New York making an energy presentation on c-span said that the energy-savng long lasting fluorescent bulb was created after the 1973 oil crisis. The new plasma TV's contain 3,000 such bulbs.

It sounds like you're settling into the new home in style!

"Once you've watched HD you will find it difficult to go back. Stay away from it, it's really too kewl to live without." Once we got ours we quit going to the movies totally. Now friends come over for movie night. Monday Direct TV is installing our HD TIVO unit.
I doubt we will see the inside of a movie theater again.
(Though we are contemplating a trip to see War of the Worlds but only because we have been given passes to see it in Lancaster)

Think about getting a true projector. Mine is FAR cooler than a TV. FAR. It truly is like watching a movie.

Exactly!
If you could save 10% on your air conditioning bill, it would mean a lot more than 100% on your TV. Seems to me these people don't have their priorities straight.
Guess that project to run your TV off solar power wouldn't be too interesting.
Your air conditioner, on the other hand ...

Well, I let my husband pick the furniture (I had to grit my teeth), in the living room so I could pick the entertainment center!
