""The Clintons were hardly settled in the White House when Internet chatter about the "body count""

Internet chatter in 1993-94? Must have been a lonely conversation

"I picked this up on the recommendation of another freeper"

How soon they forget! I was the freeper, it seems to me.

"Don't forget the stewardess, who was alive and all right, taken to a hospital, and died mysteriously shortly thereafter. Something about a pin prick under her arm, IIRC."

I have been unable, so far, to find a reference to this in the book. I will look again later. I do notice, however, that Niko Junic, the airport maintenance chief, "...died of gunshot wounds three days after the crash. Officials ruled his death a suicide after a one-day investigation."

So many lies, so little time.

Some day, perhaps, WorldNetDaily will reach DebkaFile's credibility level.

Then, at the last minute, Brown is assigned to some mission in Europe. Someone steels a homing device of the type used to guide planes) from the airport he is to fly into.

The Instrument Landing System vanished from the Dubrovnik airfield during the war. Most likely, lifted by light-fingered Serbs. It was a valuable piece of equipment (~$500,000) that some warlord could sell, or some Serbian clown could install on an airfield on his own property. It is not the only way to land on instruments by any means (the military practices about six different kinds of approaches, including some that civilian pilots do not use, like PAR).

A substitute system, called a Non-Directional Beacon, was in place. Every pilot (civilian and military) learns to fly NDB approaches as part of his instrument rating. Pilots who fly into the poorer parts of the world, like Africa and South America, rely on these extensively. In North America they are less important.

The NDB approach at Dubrovnik used TWO different NDBs (one to line up with the runway, one to tell you when it was time to get out of there if you didn't see the runway yet) and required, under USAF regulations, two Automatic Direction Finding (ADF) receivers. The VC-37 had only one but the crew, worn out after a hard week, made the fateful decision to "get it done regardless". They probably tried to cross tune one receiver to keep an eye on two beacons. This is bad procedure -- it's legal for civilian airmen but forbidden by AFIs and at least some airline operating manuals. It increases the likelihood of operational error. QED.

The plane flies directly into a mountain.

Happens so frequently there's an acronym for it, CFIT. (Controlled Flight Into Terrain). Happened right along the main NDB, but AFTER the missed approach point where intersecting the second NDB should have told them to climb. It is mountainous there! Very bad place to be in an airplane you can't see out of.

The weather is described in the media as a horrible storm, but is, in fact, a light drizzle.

The weather was not the kind of storm that slams the plane to the ground, but it WAS the kind of clouds that obscures mountains. That's all that's needed for a plane bungling an instrument approach to come a cropper.

And when they get to the plane wreck, with everyone dead,

Actually, one crewmember survived the crash but did not make it to the hospital.

Brown has a bullet in his head!

There is no evidence for a bullet in Brown's head, first. If the plan was to crash his plane, there is not much percentage in putting a bullet in him afterward (and the injury described by conspiracy moonbats as a "bullet hole," did not happen afterward). If some assassin put a bullet in his head before, on the other hand, (1) why crash the plane, and (2) a bit hard on the assassin. I gotta believe even Hiillary doesn't have a bottomless pool of henchmen. Even the prolific Kennedys are running out of felonious cousins.

As far as the damage to Brown's body is concerned, if you think that's unusual you haven't looked at a lot of accident victims. I will spare FReepers a discussion of what human remains are, after a high-velocity crash. In one mishap I know of, hands floated ashore for two weeks. Hands. Yet, there is no investigation whatsoever, event though a number of miliatary [sic] medical people involved demand one.

This is the most contemptible of all the lies, impugning as it does the officers who sat on the AFI 51-3 board and the professional safety officers and accident investigators that investigated this mishap. You owe them an apology.

Their careers are ruined!

Whose? The only careers I know of being damaged (let alone ruined) were officers who were derelict in their duty to insure that the 89th Airlift Wing could carry out this kind of mission.

The accident board report is not publicly available (parts of it may be here and there), but this accident is deconstructed by then-Lt. Col. Tony Kern in a book: "Darker Shades of Blue: The Rogue Pilot."

Flying has integral hazards. You don't need a conspiracy when someone screws up. Most people (including FReepers) know diddly about flying and about the USAF, so they are vulnerable to this kind of fever-swamp conspiracy stuff.

Finally, consider, so what if Brown had told all he knew? Say, in order to try to save his skin or to spite Clinton. So what? Didn't Mike Espy pretty much do that? And Espy went to jail (or whatever his sentence was) and Clinton was untouched byany blowback, with three networks and Christ knows how many newspapers playing damage control for him.

In WND's feverish world, planes never crash, somebody has to bring them down. I wish that were true: Ron Brown would still be around today (maybe in pokey, but alive) and so would an awful lot of people including many I called friends.

Terrorists or criminals brought down the following planes:

  1. Air India 182 (1985) (Bomb in luggage. Concurrent attempt on CP Air 003, unsuccessful)

  2. PSA 1171, (1987) (Suicide murder by deadheading airline employee)

  3. UTA UT-772, (1989) (Bomb in Cargo or Luggage)

  4. Ethiopian 961 (1996) (Hijackers)

  5. SilkAir 185 (1997) (Suicide by pilot))
  6. Pan Am 103, Lockerbie (1988)(Bomb in luggage).

  7. EgyptAir 990 (1999) (Suicide murder by pilot)

  8. Sept 11, 2001 (suicide murder by hijackers):
    1. American 77, Pentagon;
    2. United 93, Pennsylvania
    3. American 11, WTC North;
    4. United 175, WTC South.

  9. Volga-AviaExpress 1303 (2004) (suicide womb bomber)

  10. Siberia Airlines 104 (2004) (suicide womb bomber)
This is a fairly complete list of recent acts of crime, terrorism or war against aircraft that caused hull loss and major loss of life. I left off two incidents deliberately: Iran Air 655 and KAL 007 as not quite in this same class, and I may have inadvertently missed a few, especially in the Third World (the Air Rhodesia Viscounts were too long ago).

There have been some unsuccessful plots as well (Operation Bojinka, Air France 8969) to use planes as weapons. But the same investigatory techniques and skills that let us point the finger on these listed misdeeds, show us the causes of many other accidents taken by the ill-informed to be terroristic in nature, such was TWA 800, AA 587, and Alaska 261 to name a few.

The sky is an unnatural environment for humans. Any error or procedural flub or unforeseen circumstance can bring that home in a heartbeat.

d.o.l.

I read this very informative book when it first came out. My thought then was, and still is, that it was going to be the 'bible' to refer to again and again in years to come.

Easy to read and absolutely captivating!

I read your book and it was great. We have to stop this woman (creature) from lying her way into the Oval Office with the help of the MSM! Thanks so much for doing all you can to expose the truth about her. I am sure you can identify with Ed Klein who is being blackballed for writing his book on her. The media is going to do all they can to make sure the public doesn't know or believe the truth.!

Thanks so much for the article. I am getting that book!

But I thought we were suppose to be discussing Karl Rove's so-called smear campaign on President Bush's so-called perceived enemies. /sarcasm

I can't imagine the Clintons doing such low-life things to their perceived adversaries. /sarcasm

If the OLD MEDIA tried as hard to get to the bottom of the Clinton scandals as they have tried to pin something, anything on the Bush administration this country would be better off for it. But, their biases keeps them from reporting anything that puts a Clinton, et al in a bad light.

YOU are being WAY TOO RATIONAL in not appreciating "this kind of fever-swamp conspiracy stuff".

I haven't read this book yet, but I plan to do so, and I encourage all Feepers to do the same. I think that this is much like the book, Partners in Power that came out befor the first Clinton election. Read it, I'm going to.

While I've always had a problem with the ROn Brown thing and aspects of the "clinton body count" it DOES say something that Pellicano is what he is (a scumbag) and that he worked in the White House(and not as a janitor.)

That SAYS something about the Clinton White House, or at least the parts HIllary managed. One not need to be a murderer to try to intimidate people at the behest of a powerful actor or politician.

I left out the stewardess because published accounts of her case conflicted on several points, and I did not have time to research the matter independently before my deadline.

I previously wrote: "bm? I'm almost afraid to ask, but, um... what does that mean?"

RegulatorCountry replied: Bowel movement.

Oh. I was hoping it meant something different in FR jargon. I gather, then, that federal didn't like my article?

I liked your article it was regulatorcountry which replied with the term bowel movement.

I simply stated BM (to me) was a acronym for bookmark.

Internet chatter in 1993-94? Must have been a lonely conversation.

Actually, the Internet was quite lively even at that early date. Matt Drudge, for example, started his Web site in 1994.

As noted in my book — and also in Part 2 of the excerpt/adaptation series currently running on WorldNetDaily — the Mosaic browser came on the market in February 1993, greatly simplifying the process of accessing the World Wide Web.

You are right, of course, in noting that the Internet was still in its infancy during the 1993-94 period. At that time, anti-Clinton commentators were more likely to post to Usenet newsgroups such as alt.current-events.clinton.whitewater or commercial online services such as Prodigy. All the same, the Internet was plainly a significant force in alternative media, even as early as 1993-94.
