we are catching up with obesity figures is because of the supply of cheap food.I agree. Plus, all the cheap food is starches, which is why you see so many overweight poor people here. I haven't found cheap meat anywhere, darn it. Not that grapes aren't starch, but to compare healthy vs. not so healthy, a bunch of green seedless grapes are $3.99 right now at my grocer's. I can get a big bag of potato chips for 99 cents.
How's your dad?

That's a GREAT photo in #40, OWF. Thanks for posting it. GWB is a most extraordinary man. A sharp contrast in every possible way to his pathetic predecessor.
Speaking of pathetic, the WG press corps is getting worse by the day, it seems. That really stupid flap over the President giving a thumbs up just makes me want to hurl. I saw a clip of it for the first time on MSNBC early this morning. Good grief! Anyone can see that it was a thumbs up. More to the point, any reporter who witnessed the event would know the truth. But do you think any of them would tell the truth? Grrrrrr...
What Leno and the media don't realize, though, is the notion that the POTUS might actually flip the bird to reporters actually makes GWB more human and likeable to most average Joes and Janes in the public.

I have always wondered what it must be like to have a ride in a chopperSometimes, when thereis high wind, landing on an offshore rig in a chopper can be rather exciting. I used to do it every two weeks at crew change. I must be paid to ride on one.

ALL, OWF just alerted me to more new photos out on Yahoo News. Here's the first. Give me a few minutes, and I'll get them all up here.
President Bush shakes the hand of Corporal Sean Locker (R) after presenting the Marine with the Purple Heart at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, today. Locker, from Jessup, Maryland, is recovering from injuries suffered while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Dad is still tired but he is eating OK now so that is step in the right direction.
By the way we have cheap meat, chicken and there was a programme on UK TV a couple of days ago showing why it is cheap. The conditions the birds lived in was terrible including dead ones in with the live ones and injured and sick ones and often the sick and injured get slaughtered with the others and get used for chicken pieces. They also showed you how to look out for birds kept in that condition one of the signs is bits of skin missing or damaged that often means they have sat in their own urine and it has burnt the skin.
I ate chicken tonight and I must admit I thought about the programme and looked very closely at the skin.

I saw the article and even wrote a VERY sarcastic e-mail to the author..............Jonathan Chait? is that right?.......
Anyway, the guy was a nutcase because he was trying to make the President out as being seriously disturbed because of how much he exercised.
He even said that there is no connection between physical fitness and mental health.......which is exactly opposite of the truth.
Of course it came from the LA Times, and they wouldn't know the truth if it hit them in the forehead.
I LIKE that our President stays in shape. In fact he (and Laura) have inspired me to go to the fitness center and work out three times a week, and walk on the others.
Unfortunately, my brain has not yet told my body to start looking better because of all this work.......sigh.......

President Bush shakes the hand of Marine Corporal Anthony Gower after presenting him with a Purple Heart today. Gower, a Pittsburgh native, is recovering from injuries received in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The President hugs Molly Sloan, mother of Captain Stephen "Kyle" Sloan, while visiting the captain and his family. Other members of the family include Sloan's wife, Courtney (L), 10-month-old son Samuel, and father, Carlos (R). Sloan is recuperating from injuries suffered during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
GWB shakes hands with Sgt. Jacob Knospler of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, as the Marine's 10-month-old daughter Jahna sleeps next to him. Knospler is recovering from injuries suffered while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

I quit eating chicken for that reason years ago. Besides, when I was a kid. our chickens ran loose and had a varied diet, and were delicious. Now chicken tastes flat.
