how DARE THEY refuse to remove his name, at request?

Because their mission to lose the war is more important than their expressed, but false, support for the troops and their families. In reality, they "loathe the military" at least as much as they hate George Bush.

The Libs are in too deep to admit their BS. The best thing to them would be a failure in Iraq at any cost just so they can say, "I told you so!". This is why we see stuff like Code Pinko funds getting to the insurgents. They truly are an enemy within.

Cindy and her friends support the troops...but only the dead ones. Dead soldiers are politically useful since they can't contradict you. Alive, however, the troops are murdering fascists. (see the Left's take on: Abu Graib, Gitmo, Iraq, Afghanistan...)

It's all a game for them. Win political points and secure power. How you do so is irrelevant. Who you injure or how many you injure is irrelevant. Family, friends, aquiantences, total strangers, it doesn't matter; they all take a back seat to Liberalism. Liberalism, Liberalism, uber alles!

"Derek would not want to be remembered that way."

It is particularly cruel for liberals to misuse the deaths of those who gave their lives honorably for this country, for a cause directly opposed to the reason they died.

boy, are YOU right about that!! they realize their behavior was unacceptable after viet nam, so they are trying to recreate all the conditions that made viet nam such a debacle without saying they hate the military.

their magnetic "we support our troops" ribbons are just a front which only mean they aren't going to behave OVERTLY like jane fonda.

cindy sheehan is doing that part for them.

Can they use her son's image without permission? Can a person copyright an image?

The tags are hand-written names, so copyright doesn't apply. However, I've looked at the pictures of that place, and what a damn amateur job. Haphazardly hand-written tags, no consistency, and the crosses are often tilting and none are even lined up straight. I'd have some negative comments even if this were a display showing respect for the dead.
