Segregation is not a plank of the AIP? It seems to be when they run for President.
I think that I can speak for the mainstream of the Republican Party and the right. And that is that we don't generally go on peace protests when our troops are deployed into the combat zone.
"Segregation is not a plank of the AIP? It seems to be when they run for President."
The American Independent Party does not have a segregation plank. You are using the rule of guilt by association.
If one position that sounds like a leftist talking point means the candidates entire nature can be dismissed as LIBERAL, LIBERAL, LIBERAL! then your candidacy is LIBERAL, LIBERAL, LIBERAL by your own standards. Your platform on abortion clearly states abortion .is a womans right Essentially, it's a woman's body and her right to choose. That is NOT a conservative sound bite, its a liberal position espoused by people like Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer.
>> O.K., there are some aspects of the AIP that are indeed conservative. These issues WILL NOT fly successfully in the upscale conservative 48th District (and with it's substantial Jewish population).
Again, the same can be said of YOUR platform. There are SOME aspects of your candidacy that are indeed conservative, but your LIBERAL views on abortion will not fly in the upscale conservative 48th District. Over 70-80% of Republican voters are pro-life and this is Chris Coxs district, NOT Chris Shays. The 48th had a history of electing pro-life officials and will continue to do so.
>> George Wallace founded the AIP and ran for President on it in 1968. George Wallace was a popular right-wing segregationist Governor from Alabama. That means no African-Americans in white culture. In 1976, John G. Schmitz ran for President on the AIP ticket. He was a vocal segregationist. In 1980, John Rarick ran for President on the AIP ticket. Rarick was a White Supremist. Now, I am NOT going to say that Jim Gilchrist and his "Minutemen" are like a group of men wearing white robes on horses lined up along the Mexican border. My point is that with the liberal anti-war stance of his party and their history of being White Supremist, that this will NOT fly in the 48th District <<
I wouldnt even describe George Wallace as right-wing, he was a new dealer economically who hijacked the states rights movement for his own narrow-minded agenda.
That said, if the AIP has a long standing history segregation, why not list the segregationist candidates the party ran for President in 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004? Because there ARENT any such candidates. The AIP that George Wallace founded essentially ceased to exist after 1980. The remnants of what was LEFT of the NATIONAL party still existed in SOME local areas (most notably California) and regrouped and changed their platform and today are merely a state affiliate of the CONSTITUTION PARTY (formerly the U.S. Taxpayers Party, formed in 1992 and definitely anti-bigotry indeed the CP cut ties with its Illinois affiliate when it was the discover the CPI chairman in Illinois was anti-Catholic).
Saying todays AIP is akin to the 1968 AIP is akin to saying todays Democrat Party is akin to Andrew Jacksons Democratic Republicans. They may trace their roots back to that organization but they do not share those values. If the AIP 2004s platform contained any segregationist beliefs of Mr. Gilchrist went on record supporting such beliefs, I would definitely rule out supporting his candidacy. Fortunately there is not one shred of evidence that TODAYs AIP is pro-segregation.
That said, I would agree with you that the California AIP has the misfortune of its name conjuring up memories of the 1968 Alabama AIP, and for this reason they should really consider changing their name. However, this is out of Jim Gilchrists hands.
>> I'm going to commend Mr. Gilchrist for exposing the dangers and costs of illegal immigration. I'm going to salute him for his courageous service for our country in the Vietnam War. But I'm also going to say NO to his party. <<
And I salute your milltary record and your public service but Im saying NO to your moderate policies whether you get on the ballot or not.
P.S. You might want to start looking at the OTHER Republican candidate's platforms if you want hte party nomination and stop whining about some guy you won't even be running against in the primary.
Your question is offensive. Could have been written by a Mecha stooge.
But you can direct your question to Lupe Moreno, Rosanna Pulido, or one of the thousands of Minutemen leaders and volunteers across the country of various ethnic backgrounds.
You are utterly ignorant of the Minuteman Project, its leadership and its goals.
The Minuteman Project is not about race. Never has been. Never will be. It is about the simple enforcement of our immigration laws. It is about protecting America.
Hey old friend.
Tear this jerk a new one, will you?
BillyBoy; I've never seen so many men defensive about abortion. It really is a woman's choice. Since I have lived and worked in or all around the 48th District, I believe that I can speak for the mainstream Republican Party in that area. I don't believe that 70% to 80% of them are Pro-Life. No way! I don't like the idea of abortion either, but permitting it by law outweighs the negatives. It is permitted by law you know?
Jim Gilchrist's party's reputation including a liberal statement opposing war on their homepage will not fly in this district. During our present time of the Iraq War, a candidate's stance on the war is a major issue. A priority!
For newcomers to this pathetic thread:
This guy is on FR claiming to be a candidate for Congress.
Fact is, the qualified candidate list was completed a week ago, and this poseur is NOT on the ballot.
He's a newbie fraud, whose only reason for being here is to tear down Jim Gilchrist and to besmirch his character.
.
My question is logical. I will not be the first person to question Mr. Gilchrist's party having a past history of segregationist leaders. George Wallace was the founder and a hardline segregationist Governor from Alabama.
A conservative Republican asked me whether the "Minutemen" permitted non-whites to volunteer for the group.
I applaud Mr. Gilchrist's exposing the dangers and costs of illegal immigration. I denounce his stance at opposing an Iraqi invasion and also denounce his party's statement on their homepage opposing war. Our troops need all of the support that they can get while they are placing their lives on the line for our freedom. It's a dishonor to tell the troops that you HATE their President who they will die for on the battlefield.
>> Yes, they do. <<
Silly question. Chicagolady is of 100% mexican descent and is a volunteer for the Minutemen. She posts right here on FR. Please PM her for more info.
I have until September 20 to file!
I noted that you instructed your friend to tear me a new one.
You're a newbie troll, with no manners, and no idea of what you're talking about.
The deadline was last Monday. Guess you don't read the papers.
I did. She's a longtime FReeper and a patriotic American of Mexican descent. Your scurrilous lies about the MM and Jim Gilchrist will really tick her off. She heads the Minuteman Project in one of our most populous states.
"You're a newbie troll, with no manners, and no idea of what you're talking about. "
You forgot "and No votes". This whole "announcement" on FR backfired on him.
With a party that has former Presidential candidates who are segregationists reminds me of a certain group. This certain group, the Ku Klux Klan, has ties to SOME segregationists. One practice of the KKK was to intimidate African-Americans away from the election process. You instructed your friend to tear me a new one. Is that similar to the KKK?
The California Secretary of State's representative informed me that I have until September 20 to file (as it reads on the papers that they also forwarded me).
You're despicable.
The ballot was finalized a week ago.
