"Their profits at our expense. If things were really that bad for them, they wouldn't be making so much."
The oil companies, or any other business, doesn't owe you or anyone else anything except a product at a profit.
Having been in the construction business the last 50+ years if I didn't make a profit as far as I am concerned people could live under a tree or do business there, they only get a building to do it in when I make a profit.
There is no other reason to be in business.

If things were really that bad for them, they wouldn't be making so much.I'm thinking about drilling, hauling and refining my own gasoline. Ya want to go in half with me?

Oil company profits will set records. Doesn't that just make you sick? Their profits at our expense.
So, buy stock.

Hehe. Nice response.

Oil company profits will set records. They did last year. And they have every quarter so far this year. Some of them as high as 90+ percent higher than same quarter a year ago.
But there's no gouging going on. Nuh uh.

I took from your post that you think the refinery outage is the biggest problem. So even if the pipeline is up and running, it doesn't solve the problem. Correct?
Also, I haven't heard anything about NO's port, which I understand is the busiest port in the US. Was that damaged too?

As a Boeing employee I fear another post 9/11 slump following this Gulf Coast disaster. We have finally turned around and have lots of orders on the books, but I can foresee postponements or cancellations of orders if this inflation of fuel prices continue much longer.

Atlanta is the busiest airport in the country. I recall hearing that it was THE (or maybe one of the) busiest in the WORLD.
Its certainly busy enough and certainly large enough from my untrained eye

Doesn't that just make you sick? Their profits at our expense. Aw, would it make you feel better if the government took over the big bad oil companies and gave us all gas for free?

The only thing worse is them not making enough to stay in business. I don't want to deny them that principle, but it sure does suck when we're taking it in the shorts and they're taking it to the bank.

Well, that's pretty much the way I see it too. And next year they'll be up 90% again over this year. There are times when I wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea to get off the stock market merry go round. The demand for ever higher profits must have some limits.

FedEx's main hub is in Memphis. UPS is headquartered in Atlanta, but their main air hub is in Louisville. Atlanta is NOT a major air cargo hub.

The demand for ever higher profits must have some limits. One would hope that limit would be set by some sort of morality. But that term has no place in American business.
