There are really four guys to consider, as to what they used, when they started, and for how long: Bonds (above all), Sosa, Palmeiro, and McGwire. All four have sure-fire HOF numbers, each over 550 homers. (Canseco and Giambi are not HOFers, even with steroids.)

Do we not have Bonds' own words that he used "the cream" and "the clear"?

I can't wait for his hall of fame inducton speech (he will be inducted).
I wouldn't be too sure about that. Remember, it's the sportswriters who do the voting.

Yeah, Eddie Murray had a long and quality career.

He already owns the single-season home run mark and is determined to eclipse Aaron.
He should have spared the game and the baseball public the latter.
He should have stayed away.

Amen.

When I think of those years in Memorial Stadium with Eddie Murray, Earl Weaver, Jim Palmer, Mike Flanagan, Scott McGregor and the rest of the crew, I just have to smile.

A class act who was a credit to the game.

Who pissed and moaned until the Braves made him some kind of Vice President to shut him up

I agree that he's juiced, no doubt about it. But you can get bigger after 35 just not as big as a professional body builder. I'm 49, no athlete but do work out and I'm bigger than I was 3 years ago. Not that anyone's going to mistake me for Arnold or anything!!!!!

Barry Bonds does not have the dignity and grace even of Henry Aaron's discarded socks.

Aaron is a genuine national hero.

There are other jerks in the hall (Ty Cobb comes to mind) so I don't think that's a disqualifier.
Jerks maybe, but not cheaters as obvious as these guys have been. Bonds, McGwire, Sosa and Palmeiro shouldn't even be allowed in set foot in Cooperstown, let alone get voted into the Hall of Fame.

I was only referring to people's opinions of Bonds. Most whites will criticize him; most blacks will praise him.

Bonds already played the race card during spring training this year. He even brought his kid to a press conference where he whined about the affect this was having on his kid.

Bonds is a punk pure and simple. The race baiting didn't work back in March and it won't work if the fool actually has the nerve to play next year.

When he's done playing he'll just fade away and nobody will care.

When I was in high school, it became obvious Hank was going to break the record. Most of Atlanta was pulling for him, but race was a factor for some people.

When he broke the record, most of Atlanta cheered. Race was a factor for some people.

After he broke the record, he was looking at a house in the neighborhood of one of my sister's friends. Some of the neighbors freaked out.

I remember telling someone that if the Hammer wanted to move into my neighborhood and I had scum neighbors like that, the neighbors would go and Hank would stay.

In my South, those type of people were few and far between. I know they were out there, but the large majority of this city and state was pulling for him.

I was at the ballgame when it was announced his brother, Tommy, had died. The moment of silence shared for him was of utmost respect.

Yes, race was an issue for Hank at the time. He has written about the letters and threats he received. For Bonds to use that card everytime he opens his mouth is to trivialize the accomplishments of those who paved the way for him.

To make a long story short, I would hate for Bonds to break the record because he is an arrogant SOB, a self centered pr!ck. He is the one with a chip on his shoulder. He is the one who brings race into every conversation.

Message for Bonds, It's not racism, it's prickism.

Bonds is a arrogant, lying, cheating rat. The same can be said of McGwire, Palmero and Sosa.

Yep, and all without steroids. Geez, imagine if the greatest hitter of all time, Ted Williams used steroids? How about Mickey Mantle or Stan Musial?
