Born in Baltimore in 1958, I was privileged to call all those guys my heroes when I was a kid. Except I'm a few years older than you apparently, 'cuz you left out Boog, Brooks, Bobby and Belanger. My dad had tix for us for game 5 of the 1966 world series (which of course the o's won in 4).
Has Bonds EVER pi$$ed hot on any drug or 'roid test? No?
Really?
Then why shouldn't he come back?
Ok, you got me, what is this?
Can you say "Hasta la Vista, babeeee" with an Austria accent?
LOL. Don't forget Ollie.
I too am an O's fan, in hibernation until Angelos sells.
Lou Brock is black and beloved
Bobby Bonds was black and beloved
Willie McGee is black and beloved
Jackie Robinson was black and hated...by opposing teams
Barry Bonds is a child of privilege and wealth who does not know the difference between respectable outspokenness(Jim Brown)and snotty whining.
It's all about Barry.
I remember those glory days well. I just mentioned Eddie and the boys because that was his era.
I remember Boog, Blair, Robinson, Johnson, Belanger, Buford, Rettenmund and the rest with affection.
Barry Bonds - the man that puts the ass in asterisk.
Don't get me started!!
No need to read the entire script. Just find "Early evening at the Special Olympics" on the page and read to the end from there.
They'd change his nickname from "The Splendid Splinter" to "The Splendid Sequoia."
How about Mickey Mantle or Stan Musial?
I think Musial would only hit about .270 with 20 home runs.
Of course, the man's 84 years old. . . .
There are also our eyes.
There is also the Greg Anderson-BALCO connection.
There is also the fact that nobody, ever, in the entire history of sports, has so dramatically shot up (no pun intended) his performance in his mid-to-late 30s!
I'm not here to defend McGwire, but he admitted to taking Andro, long before this controversy. It was at the time a legal over the counter drug, and baseball had no rules against it.
That doesn't excuse him, but I don't put him in the same class as Bonds etc.
Look, I know he's juiced just as well as everyone else. What I am saying is that there is a system for things like this, instituted by baseball. If he is found to be juiced by them, ban him from the game forever. To my knowledge he hasn't been caught under this system.
And what you and I "see" and "think" about what he does and doesn't do, is not proof.
Rose is trying to reneg on a deal he made to avoid prosecution.
He made the deal, and now wants a 'do over'.
Hank was a ten year old in '55???
Did you see Stan the Man take down his number the other day. Awsome.
I saw a still photo of it in the paper. His wife was out there with him. They've been married 66 years!
Stan Musial is what a ballplayer should be like, in every respect. The way he has conducted himself, on and off the field, during his playing days and after--that's how it should be done. One of the greatest ballplayers ever, and he's still down-to-earth, good-humored, not so high and mighty and distant that he cuts himself off from the fans. . . .
