"Today, I came to vote because I am tired of terrorists, and I want the country to be safe again," said Zeinab Sahib, a 30-year-old mother of three, one of the first voters at a school in Baghdad's mainly Shiite neighborhood of Karrada. "This constitution means unity and hope."
"I'm 75 years old. Everything is finished for me. But I'm going to vote because I want a good future for my children,"Fliha said.
Oh GOD..I just turned on CNN..Christianne is beside herself attempting to downplay the good that is taking place today. You should HEAR them...the distortion is scary.
Our KIDS helped do this, SE. Feeling mighty PROUD right now! :)
Yep, Sorry Saddam's stoodges, but your day's of being top dog over the peons is over. Going to have to learn to live with the majority. But you'll learn. After all, Our American Democrats have and you all cannot be as willfully stupid as they are.
bttt
Ten years from now Iraq is going to be a thriving country and a very grey haired Dubya is going to go there and be showered with flower petals and an outpouring of affection that will stun the world.
Yeah..they surely have created the day for this to happen! I know our soldiers MUST be feeling proud:)
What a wonderful day this is!!
The news of this great day will be too much to hide, though, no matter how hard the media tries.
God BLESS our troops! And God bless your brave son!

Turnout in Basra over 70 percent
http://www.kuna.net.kw/Home/Story.aspx?Language=en&DSNO=779122
BASRA, Oct 15 (KUNA) -- The ballot stations in Basra, south of Iraq, witnessed since early hours Saturday a high turnout for Iraq's constitution referendum amid intensive security measures.
The participation in the majority of the polling stations reached over 70 percent, and no violations have been reported.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi Minister of Transportation, Salam Al-Maliki called on the people of Basra to participate in the referendum and to have the freedom of accepting or refusing it.
He added that the Iraqis should enjoy their democratic rights after they lived for decades under suppression and dictatorship.
For his part, the Governor of Basra, Mohammed Al-Waeli said that what is being witnessed today is a unique experience of democracy in the new Iraq.
G-d protect the voters from evil men who would seek to do them violent harm because of their courage.
Thanks for the updates!
Crap, forgot the live thread tag.
Well we'll let it go this time....but WATCH IT! Next time we not be so forgiving. I'm afraid if it happens again I'm going to have to report it to "THEM".
Rubber PING!
People brought their FAMILIES to the polls to let their kids know what voting is like. There has been an enormous turn-out and almost no violence, even in Baghdad and Fallujah!
@@@@@
CBS radio news keeps announcing that turnout is low., people are afraid, yadda yadda, so an emailer wrote to the local talkshow host that CBS was up to its old tricks.
While the particular host was interviewing our Governor, he read the email over the air, and they both commented on the unreliability of "news."
This is the first time I have heard those biased "top-of-the-hour" news broadcasts refuted in real time.
Power to the internet, and informed people!
Call Christianne Amanmpour "creative" then. I've been watching Fox all morning, but when the stock mkt shows came on, I switched to CNN. Here's what I've heard.
Amanpour reported earlier that the vote isn't really important. The REAL problem in Iraq is that the armed forces appear "to be factionalizing", i.e. Shiites conducting raids on Sunni households out of revenge! Ominous!
Right now they're at a polling site interviewing SUNNIS only...and the reporter can reliably say that polling station appears to be voting "no".
Amanpour reporting that people are "very, very concerned that the country will lose its unity"....sounds scary, huh?
Amanpour now announcing she "didn't see the kind of lines today that she saw back in January" Of course, she was in Baghdad in January (doesn't mention that). In other words, I've been listening for about 20 minutes and all I've heard is doom and gloom!
No! Not them! I'd rather be reported to the Head Beagle!
The MSM absolutely hates good news out of Iraq. So no good news is ever reported.
