Annan will be visiting with Chirac tomorrow, according to Arab News.

They would not tell us the religious identity of the perps if it happened here and stiff measures would be taken to guarantee the safety of the criminals. National Guard troops would be deployed with orders to shoot any "vigilantes" who tried to interfere with the rioters' civil rights.

Anybody doubt it would play out this way, given how El jefe treated the minutemen?

Will Chirac's and de Villepin's heads roll for this, or are the French completely neutered?

At the moment, my impression is that there are political barriers to an effective response; in particular, the French Socialists seem to be preventing any real and effective response to the problem. With that in mind, Chirac's silence could be interpreted in a couple of ways.

He could be as paralyzed as Kathleen Blanco, in which case his head will indeed roll.

Alternatively, no matter what else he might be, Chirac is a very shrewd politician, and a very cynical man. The political pressure is no doubt rising for the French government to actually do something about this. The French socialists are busy whining about "disadvantaged youths" and so on ... and perhaps Chirac is content to let them yap a bit longer, until such time as he decides to speak out. I suspect he is setting the political stage for a serious and "unkind" response. I think the French military will be brought in, with orders to bust heads.

We'll know in the next few days whether the French are completely neutered. I tend to think they're not.

Oh, yes, I know. But I fail to see how this will make Chirac look very good. One theory is that Chirac and de Villepin set it up to nail Sarkozy but have lost control of the situation.

2001 is a pretty old number considering the rate of growth of Muslims in Canada in recent years. Canada's total population is estimated at nearly 33,000,000 today. So at least 2% of your population is Muslim. If you recall, Muslims are already asking for Sharia law in Canada...

>>>"If your reference to Spain refers to terrorist acts, yes Canada is on the Al Qaeda list and they will take place"<<<

I meant to infer that if they wish to capitulate "WHEN" they get attacked that they have a neighbor to the South that has already drawn a line in the sand, they may not have as much latitude in their response to a Terrorist attack as they might think, (we have a stake in their response) and I dearly hope that they start now to take this War to Heart, it is coming and they/we need more than just Boy Scouts to be prepared.

I wonder how their leisurly punk walk would play out in Texas?

Since Napolean the French haven't had much of taste for such things. I'd be surprised to see Chirac call for it.

"Even Kathleen Blanco was more useful than that."

You are right....the French response makes Blanco's stance look incredibly strong.

Do we have to sink the French fleet again?

Chirac has not publicly addressed the crisis since it began Oct. 27

Wow. What leadership. This guy is a regular John Maxwell.

PREDICTION: The failed socialist French leaders will find an even deeper capacity for capitulation.

Not true. Although they've lost to the Germans a few times, they've been known to crack down hard on dissent, too.

I'd be surprised to see Chirac call for it.

You may be right. I tend to think otherwise, though, because Chirac's own position is at stake.

"Now we know where to send her."

Good idea. At least she'd let the police put up some resistance. And she might just get the militia started there.

"they've been known to crack down hard on dissent, too.

Well, that's where Chirac's problem is, isn't it? Since he's pocketed so much money from the disenting islamists, now what's he going to do?

I guess that's why he hasn't said anything since Oct 27.

That's 10 LONG DAYS.

It is indeed a long 10 days. Which (IMO) leaves us with the two alternatives I've mentioned -- he's either paralyzed, or cynically waiting for the right moment to act.

So at least 2% of your population is Muslim.

I don't know about the 'at least' but that is what I said - a few percent. It doesn't take more than one person to ask for Sharia law. Hey, I am just making the point that the situation in Canada is not as bad as France. That does not mean it is good. It does not mean it is not serious. I said there were differences and there are - major ones.

We have no sharia law in Canada. Sorry you're late.

As for muslim population, we have more indians, chinese and other oriental immigrants.
