No wonder they call their show "Desperate Houswives"! No self respecting male would have anything to do with the pigs! I tried to watch it once...10 minutes was way more than I could stand.

" Geez, give it a rest. When Mayor Daley referred to himself as "Irish" you folks probably didn't give him a hard time."
Well we try to give the Mayor for Life a hard time about being the most corrupt democrat in the entire corrupt democrat party. I'm cool with the whole him saying he's Irish thing. However I'm not sure how the Irish feel about it :)

See post 8, Clem.
And while I'm thinking aboutit -- What would you think of some one living here in the US that identifies more with say, a religion, than with being an american?
This racialization and ethnicising and identification of other than being an american cannot produce good reslults in the long run.

They touch your car for a reason. All cops do this. If the person in the car turns out to be a really bad guy and kills the cop, their hand and fingerprints are on that vehicle as evidence. They usually put their hand on the trunk for this purpose.
"I did not know that." (/Johnny Carson voice)
That's very smart and I, too, hope he was wearing a recorder or "wire."
They'd probably call entrapment but I doubt they would want the tape made public...there are precious careers here! /sarcasm

Where does the race part come into play here? Mexican is a nationality. While that is true, it's also used as a quasi racial designation. It's what Texas Hispanics were called before the term "Hispanic" came into use. Well "Latino/Latina" were in there somewhere too. The terms are of course more ethnic than racial.
However I did have a Hispanic lady in far west San Antonio ask me if my wife was "white" too, which she is, when I told her that my wife could speak Spanish fluently, with a mixed Cuban/Spainish accent. :). However the lady's skin was every bit as white as my wife's, the difference being in hair and eye color, not skin color.

The officer was polite, firm and doing his job. That is my experience with S.A. officers in general. Mine as well, although I never received any "official" attention from them. I did run into several different Bexar County officers in gun shops. Very pro Second Amendment bunch, don't know about the SA city police in that regard.

I'm pretty sure we would have a far more unpleasant night that this dirty whore did.
Whoa. Dirty whore? I'm not used to defending movie stars but that seems a bit harsh to me.

Most SA cops are the same. When I was in the military, I worked as a bartender on the side (Southside of San Antonio)-had some trouble at the place one night and the first thing the cop asked was if I had a gun. I told him ita wsa at home. His reply was "It ain't doing you any ^&$$ good there now, is it?"

For what its worth, my nationality is American. The Europe that my ancestors immigrated from was corrupt and decadent.
I think there are alot of folks out there who confuse ethnicity with nationality. Martin Scorsese said that he was an American director, even though growing up he always said he was "Italian" in the multiethnic environment of NYC.
I'm sure the lovely Ms. Longoria would answer "yes" if you asked her if she was an American. I've never met a normal Second or more generation Mexican American who didn't say they were American.
"How long do I have to live here before they call me an American?" --- Joe Kennedy after reading a New York Times article referring to him as an Irish politician.

"I was just recently on the receiving end of San Antonio Police attention. (My fault) The officer was polite, firm and doing his job. That is my experience with S.A. officers in general."
Pretty much universal in the SA/Bexar Co Area. There is, however, a line that mouthy yahoos need not cross. Once it is crossed, everything remains polite, but any room for compromise is gone. It will be done the officers way.

Mexicans refer to those with light hair and eyes as "Guero/a." I had a blonde Mexican colleague who was referred as such. In the far south, where Indians are the majority, even fair skinned Mestizos are referred to as Gueros.

However I'm not sure how the Irish feel about it :) Mayor Daley might be corrupt as hell, but he also runs a damn fine ship. Chicago is probably the best run major city in the country -- clean streets, efficient public transportation, and NO CITY WAGE TAX!!! I'd take a corrupt dem like Daley over an honest but incompotent "republican" like Mike Bloomberg.
