"Humans originated on Santa Catalina and migrated west until they arrived back in California 7000 years ago."

So, where does (13,000 year-old) Arlington Springs Woman fit into your theory?

Some never left. They were there all along, all 200,000 years.

Check their passports. That should tell them something about their country of origin.
My son took to heart the current newscycle on illegal immigration and started calling his sister, who was born in South America, "Immigrant." Everytime he calls her that she hits me. I finally got them to stop it all by reminding her that her brother was born in Hialiah, FL.

'Nuff said. They both dropped it. Moral of the story: origins aren't everything. I'm just glad to be here for a time, and I love seeing my kids in this life, too.

Heh, CB: how's S. Fla?

Hey Nicollo! So good to hear from you! SoFlo is dry for this time of the year, it was 94 degrees when the wife and I took this morning to hang out together and see some sites, then stop for sushi and waaaay toooo much Saki. : )

Work is coming along on all the hurricane damage and we've taken this opportunity to do just about everything we've put off redoing for so long. Needed a new roof, so we replaced the eves as well, needed to repaint repaired areas of the home so we redid the color. Needed to repair some broken windows so we did 6 others then bought panels for the rest and so on. Pool and patio will be complete in two weeks just in time for the worst of the summer heat.

We'll have a fortress this next hurricane season. That being said we're still going to hightail it outta here next time one swings our way. Can you say last minute "Disney Trip"? I'll make reservations the second the watch is flashed.

Hialiah, Eh? That's just North of Cuba, isn't? My wife is Latina but even she gets treated like a gringo in Hialiah - I can see why they stopped fighting - lol!

Then again, my son was born just North in Sunrise. It was debated before they let him cross into Boca without a passport...

All the best, Nicollo!

Glad to hear you're back rightside up. When you high-tail it north, don't forget to bring that last flag with you...!

When my son was born we lived in Miami Lakes. The Palmetto hospital was closest, and it's zip code Hialeah. He's more than half Cuban, then. My daughter was born in Asuncion. What a difference in service at the two hospitals. In the U.S., I paid $13K cash (early 90s). Down South $1000, and that included a suite, private service, five days stay, and catering. Miami, we had 1/2 a day before we were booted from a shared room. Sometimes "civilized" is a relative term.

Good luck and be well!

- Nicollo

I've been to Asuncion, but knew it as "Asunaçao" on a stopover from Rio. We were stranded at the airport, but all the indians there sold goods and we bought loads of leather luggage. I still have some of it today.

I'm only joshin' about Hialiah, but I will say that unless you speak some Spanish over there these days, you're going to feel a bit out of touch.

Have a good one!

The Scars of Evolution:
What Our Bodies Tell Us
About Human Origins

"The most remarkable aspect of Todaro's discovery emerged when he examined Homo Sapiens for the 'baboon marker'. It was not there... Todaro drew one firm conclusion. 'The ancestors of man did not develop in a geographical area where they would have been in contact with the baboon. I would argue that the data we are presenting imply a non-African origin of man millions of years ago.'"
