Libido Problems Linked to the (Contraception) Pill May Be Long-Term

Libido problems are the reason why the Pill is so prevalent to begin with. Many people worship sex as their god.

Yep, it's one of the things I specifically asked about at my very first confession.

Since I was really quite ill, and the alternative was a hysterectomy, and the pill relieved the symptoms completely and continues to do so . . . my confessor said it's one of those "secondary effect" thingies. I'm probably post menopausal at this point anyhow (I'm over 50).

I've read other studies that have found the same/similar chemical compounds in wedding cake.....

Unnatural? I was not aware that the pharma companies used magical rituals to suspend the laws of nature.

Prejudices don't change the fact that it is junk science.

"Junk science" is the current buzzword for any study that contradicts the established scientific orthodoxy.

Common sense tells me that chemically altering the female body to suppress normal function of the reproductive system is bound to have long-term detrimental effects. I fully expect to see more studies demonstrating this--if they are not quashed as 'junk science' first.

I am prejudiced in favor of honesty.

Now that's about the funniest joke I've heard all day...

LOL! Our whole society is really confused about sexuality, and the prevalence of homosexuality is a major proof of that. Reproduction is the PRIMARY purpose of our sexual anatomy. The pleasure that is derived from the sexual act is an important but SECONDARY aspect to it.

The whole process the bcp uses to suppress ovulation is to trick the body into thinking it's pregnant. The hormones used are the normal hormones a woman has in her body. So unless it is very unhealthy for a woman to be pregnant a great majority of the time (which was certainly the case before birth control), it's not that unhealthy to be on the bcp. Also, it is used to correct many hormonal problems in women that there are no other drugs to correct.

This is personal information, but I'll share it anyway. I was on the pill for years because without it, I bled constantly and my ovaries never ceased to make cysts. Personally, I thank GOD for this medicine.. and I have none of these problems that certain organizations used to try to scare women into not taking it. Most women don't. Which is the reason that the more these organizations try to scare people into not taking the bcp, the less respect they will get from the average woman.

It's all fine and good to oppose the use of the bcp for religious reasons. Those who care will follow those reasons. But please drop the scare tactics.

What is it going to be then - better sex more often with the chance of having a child (natural human state), or less-enjoyable sex less often without the "burden" of children?

It doesn't sound like a tough choice to me at all, and I can tell we are likely on opposite sides, just by the way you ask the question. :~D

FWIW, I'm not on the pill, but I would if there was a pill doctors would let me have.

"Still not as effective at decreasing libido as wedding cake is."

If wedding cake decreases libido why is it that virtually every couple that gets married has sex the night of their wedding after eating it?

I think this whole study is alot of crock. The truth is the majority of women lose sexual drive over time. Pill or no pill.

That's over-simplifying the matter, I'm afraid. But c'est la vie.

This is personal information, but I'll share it anyway.

There's almost always a personal reason behind why people defend a certain practice. Thank you for being honest enough to admit that. It is quite possible that the risks associated with taking the pill were considerably less, in your case, than those associated with your condition. Thus, taking the pill would have been medicinal for you.

The problem is with women who introduce chemical sterility into their bodies for the sole reason that it allows them to have intercourse without the "evil consequences." That is morally wrong--and I believe that science will eventually show it to be physically wrong as well.

Not in my case. Three kids (and one on the way) in five years of marriage. The Lord has been very good to me.

There's almost always a personal reason behind why people defend a certain practice.

And behind why they vehemently oppose it.

Thank you for being so nice in your response.

Actually, I know a lot of protestants that also flame users of the bcp. I've been a victim of it on other boards, unfortunately.

I know - but I also know what's coming. Before you know it, this thread will turn into an argument about Luther and Thomas Aquinas.

That's why it's important to make light. Plus it drives both sides crazy! ;-)
