Nope, if he runs, he will tack right, enough to win the nomination. He's not stupid enough to think he could win it any other way.

Unfortunately, the strongest R candidate appears to be McCain. Better than Hillary. Dealing with post-war Iran will be important and maybe McCain can do that, but aside from that he is a reformer as much as most Ds.

who in the Republican party stands out besides Dr. Condi Rice?

George Allen will be the GOP nominee, with either Rice or Guiliani as his running mate.

Hillary is also ticking off the left wing of the Dimocratic party. She has no chance if she can't get them aboard.

Hate to break it to you, but Guiliani would crush Hillary. But Hillary ain't gonna be there.

He'd win in Washington and like states, but those that still have a sizable population of good, old-fashioned, Constitutional lovin', God-fearing Americans will shun a Giuliani-type candidate in mass numbers.

Reap what you all sow.

"Unless Guiliani comes out strongly against abortion, and renounces his support of partal birth abortion, he won't even get the nomination."

You are forgetting pro queer and anti-gun.

About ten years ago, I saw Fred Thompson becoming the next Reagan, at this point, I think he is too old.

What I worry about is Giulini getting nominated, and then Hillary not getting Nominated, and some far leftist Democrat (EG Kushinch or Dean) winning the nomination, and winning the White House

I like Rudy. He's just a likeable guy. However, I have several "litmus tests" for any candidate, here's how Rudy grades, based on his mayorship, and things he's said:

-guns F
-abortion F
-fiscal/taxes B-
-WOT A-
-borders C-

Trust me, if they have any sense of self-preservation, they will back the Hildabeast.

"Hillary is not a nice guy."

Rush said she goes over like somebody's 1st, 2nd and 3rd wife rolled into one! I had that sense for years. He defined it today in words.

Doesn't matter. It's all who you're being compared to.

Why should you worry?
We can't stop the G.O.P. rank and file for committing suicide.
I'll have a clear conscience after I vote...for only true-conservative candidates. I'm not susceptible to the mental blackmail and chicanery of the Republicans.

If the choice is Guliani or Kerry/Hillary/Feingold/Algore, I'm quite certain who will carry the majority of the South. I told you this is contingent upon him lurching right on the social issues, which he will HAVE to do.

Dog Gone, you are correct.

We tend to forget, as we FReepers are such political junkies, that the vast, vast majority of people simply don't care about politics. If they pay attention at all, it will be to vote for the most likeable. Say what you will about the 'Toon, he was more likeable to the average schmo than Bob Dole.

Even the majority of my friends, highly educated, professional, successful people one and all, don't give a flip about politics. They roll their eyes when I start! (But at least they are all conservatives or malleable enough for me to win them over!) That is the average voter in this country and Hillary can't get their votes--she's too shrill and frankly, tries too hard...

I heard this today and for once Rush is wrong. We need to fear mrs. bj clinton until she takes her last breath! They're both pure evil and there are enough idiots in this country who'd vote for either one of them.

I love Rudy too - but I don't think he will run for Prez. I would love to see him running against "She Who Must Not Be Named" for the Senate this year. He would mop up the floor with her.

Rudy's problem with running for president is his personal life - two divorces (the second one was extremely public and nasty - he had moved his mistress into the Mayor's Mansion before his divorce had finalized). Red State America might be willing to overlook one divorce (Ronaldus Magnus comes to mind), but Rudy's situation is a whole different ballgame.

I'm tired of arguing. Start a Best actresses over forty thread.

...and you can put down Diane Lane as my choice.

He has zero chance of the nomination, and McCain has half that chance!

Rudy is anti-gun, Pro-queer, and pro-abortion.

Now he could come out and say he changed his mind, but who the hell would believe it besides you ?

I disagree. I think she can win because she will probably cheat. Or at least play very dirty. And the leftist media will be hammering the Republican candidate with all sorts of made up stuff -- they will create forgeries if they must. STUPID! -- will be their first charge of many. Pick pick pick. In the meantime they will roll out the red carpet for their pet Hillary. And do not forget CFR.

Gore and Kerry went before her, and they came way too close for comfort. There is NOTHING special about them.
