I get a lot of spoofs from amazon.com, but I've given up trying to notify them about it. Now I just blow them away when I find them. eBay and PayPal do it right, and make it easy to report these jerks.

I have had over 400 very good transactions with people and have bought speakers, ram, mobo/cpu combos, hard drives, cell phones, rare and out of print books/cds, and various other items. Every time I got a great deal and wound up with a delightful experience, as opposed to dealing with some halfwit with an attitude in a checkout line and paying twice as much.

The poster's problem was not with ebay. The problem will not be fixed by closing her ebay account. The problem is not realizing YOU SHOULD NEVER CLICK ON AN EMAIL LINK TO A FINANCIAL INSTITUTION OF ANY SORT, whether it is Scottrade, BankofAmerica, Ebay, Paypal, or uggabugga money for you, dot com. That practice is simply stupid and like pulling all your money out of the bank and leaving it downtown on the sidewalk overnight.

i get the same thing regularly from paypal. simple solution for me is to type in the regular paypal url in the address bar, and never use the link provided in the email.

I am not offended at all. I like playing with trolls. Here's a hint for one. Don't get into a battle of wits. You are clearly unarmed.

"Are you that desperate to sell and buy crap that you have to go to this ridiculous website??? Anyone who uses or goes to e-bay or anyother such should be confined for observation."

Funny. I make half my income selling "crap" on eBay. That you don't care for the site is meaningless.

If you indeed visited this link in your email, and signed in using your username and password, you have given vital information to someone who may use that information to control your account.

Visit eBay immediately. Sign in and update your account with a new username and password.

Notify eBay of this email (they have information on their site of where to send the actual email so they can investigate).

In the future, NEVER respond to any such email message from ANY organization to which you belong without first visiting the site.

I have gotten several ebay phishes that represent themselves as ebay prizes - usually cars. The one I found most convincing was one I get regularly that says ebay is trying to confirm if I logged into my account and tried to change my email address.

As far as using ebay, someone could scam me for several thousand dollars and I would still be ahead.

I buy hair dye, dog supplies, avon - many, many things are a better buy on ebay, evan including shipping. I found books an especially good buy.

I rarely take big risks. I once bought a car, did good, but went to check out the car before I bid. I've seen a few car scams on ebay.

Wow, that's a clever riposte. Had to dig deep for that one, didja? But given your info below, you may actually think that hasn't been said a quarter of a million times over the last 6 months or so.

Do you know what is one of the best buys you can get on ebay? Car parts. My son is a mechanic. He was going to spend $1000 for combo of front end parts for his car, and someone told him to look at ebay. He spent $160 for ALL of them. Talk about thrilled.

I also just bought some door handles. They were cheap, but hey, I spent $15 for it. Toyota wanted a lot more. And we didn't have to go trolling around junk yards.

I bought a truck off ebay once.

Saved $4,000 including the plane ticket to Maine where I picked it up and 2 weeks vacation driving it back.

Price differences across the U.S. make shopping and selling on ebay lucrative.

I sell on ebay enough to pay all my bills including utilities. and it takes very little time to do that.

I've bought a lot from eBay. I got retaliatory negative feedback from some @ssclown. He misrepresented the item, he refused to refund, I disputed to Paypal and won. That process was a hassle. I'm told there's a way to have feedback reversed, but it costs.

Nah, not too clever. But a one eyed man in the land of the blind is thought amazingly perceptive. All depends on who I am talking to , and I am now talking with you.

Seeing my error above, I take it back. When it comes to wits, you are clearly half-way armed.

However, I do have one question. Are you some type of self appointed board cop? Kind of like a moderator wannabee? Reminds me of security guards who never made it to police academy, but get it all out of their system by saying "move along now" to kids in the mall.

What can I do to better respect your authority, officer DMZ?

I live in Utah, ever hear of the "Great Salt Lake"?

This truck was cherry! They got it out of an estate auction in upper NY. It was 1 ton designed to haul horses.

Anyone who uses or goes to e-bay or anyother such should be confined for observation.

Dear Doctor, Thank you for your very professional opinion.

"I did not. But I thought the approach was a new one.

Glad to hear it. I made the decision a long time ago never to respond to such emails from anyone. That's the only safe way.

I make a half dozen or so purchases from Ebay a year. I haven't ever had a problem. You just need to use common sense. For example, only buy from people with a long list of good feedback.
