I guess I deal in facts and you deal in opinion. Think what you want but the books and future drafts will not reflect what you say.
Change the calls around and I would love to hear all the steeler fans and Joey Porter complaining, and you know they would, hell they complained about one bad call in the Indy when they were winning that game and won and they were still complaining.
You are right that the refs were too much a part of the game...in fact, they made it a boring game...
I know this is not scientific, but to a man today, everyone who discussed the game said:
1. The refs blew calls and Seattle was the victim.
2. The Steelers perhaps would have still won, but had the refs done a better job, it would have been a good game.
Tonight, ESPN's "THE PULSE", reports that 62% of their respondents say the refs effected to outcome of the game.
I didn't care, and still don't care who won the game, but the refs were terrible, and Seattle was their victim.
Well, I didn't see "blew away" anywhere on that field.
When Randle-El had nearly as many yards passing as Roethlisberger, you know your QB didn't have a very good night (22.26 rating)
Bull! The Steelers had horrible calls against them during the Indianapolis game, but THEY STILL CAME OUT ON TOP. Get over it.
yea a horrible call after they were up what like 14-17 points? who cares.
Thank you, but I;ll keep my evaluation and the STEELERS WON SUPERBOWL XL 21 to 10, thats double the opponents points!!!!!!!!!! Thats a BLOWOUT! CONGRATULATION STEELERS and all on that Wonderful Team!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They WON, the hawks lost, no more needs to be said. Ben did pretty darn good with that broken right thumb and everybody knows the Steelers are a running team. Bet you see them back next year too. Anyway, its still justa game to be enjoyed.
Given that the Steelers were a sixth seed, and the sixth best team in the AFC, and Bettis won't be back, I think it's safe to say that you won't see Pittsburgh or Seattle in SB XLI next year.
I wanted the Colts to go to the Superbowl, not Seattle. That said, I don't blame any SeaHawks fan from feeling like an Arkansas state employee just coming back from a private meeting with Governor Clinton in his hotel room.

Where was this discussion? At the Starbucks on Main Street in Seattle? Of the discussions I have heard today, most people thought the pass interference was a correct call and that the complainers are a bunch of whiners. Of course, as a Cowboy fan I saw Michael Irvin get away with subtle pushoffs, and then saw him get flagged for much more ticky-tack pushoffs because of the reputation he had developed. And I've seen Randy Moss get away with pushing off against Cowboy DB's. In the final game of the season, I saw Terry Glenn get flagged for a much less flagrant pushoff. So, I can't get too worked up when a receiver pushes off right in front of the ref and gets flagged, even if it cost him a touchdown that probably would have been batted down for an incomplete pass if not for the offensive pass interference.
Also, of the discussions I have heard today, most people said they couldn't really tell whether or not the ball broke the plane on the Rothlesberger touchdown, but that the replay was not conclusive enough to overturn the ruling on the field. Those who did not agree with that assessment mostly were of the mistaken impression that the ref ruled touchdown based on Rothlesberger putting the ball over the goal line after he was down rather than based on whether or not the ball broke the plane when Rothlesberger was in the air. Of the discussions I've heard, most of the comments were that the chop call against Hasselbeck was the only really bad call in the game and that other than that the non-calls and/or questionable calls were about evenly split between which team benefited.
Finally, most people that I heard talking about the game said that the clock management by Seattle at the end of the first half and the end of the game was so terrible that it would not be considered acceptable from a starting quarterback in any decent high school football program around here.
But then again, I'm from Texas where we have pretty high standards for our football. Also, we're accustomed to having some bad calls go against us so we just take it and realize that we have to do that much more to overcome it if we expect to win.
Yeah, the game wasn't even close. Eleven points isn't a close game. Three points is a close game, or 1 or 2 points.
Seahawks are lucky it was that close. If it wouldn't have been for some terrible calls against the Steelers, it would have been 35-10 Steelers.
Great Synopsis, this does sound like an Al Gore Moaning Session.
And note that Bens crossing the plane was totally reviewed and upheld. Those refs know they are going to be picked apart and they did a fine job.
Ping!
The officiating was nothing to brag about, but I still think QB play was what made this game excruciating to watch. Any QB that won a Super Bowl in the last 20 years (even Dilfer) would have made this a more enjoyable game.
Yes and the "I just hate the Steelers" comments sound a lot like the democrats whose only response to the factual statements of "algore lost every single recount in Florida" and "Kerry was never even close in Ohio" amounts to "I hate Bush, so he should have lost; waaaahhhh"
Right On! Again You hit the nail on the head...CONGRATULATIONS Steelers and Bill Cowher and Mr Rooney and the Entire Superbowl XL Winning Team by a Blowout. Lets remember all the experts had Steelers by only 3 points. Glad I'm a Republican and the Steelers are FANTASTIC!! The Better team won, the loosing team played a good game and I really enjoyed the Superbowl, except will take a pass on the halftime show.
Yep, You are entirely correct, the Steelers took alot of calls and were headed to a huge devastating lead, but in the end 11 points is a blowout, but it could have been the Steelers 35 to 10.
That would have helped in the entertainment value, but I wish for the days when we had QB's like Montana, Elway, Favre, Young, Marino, Esiason, Kosar, Aikman, Kelly and others I'm sure I'm leaving off. A lot of today's QB's have talent, but don't seem to be great leaders on the field (Brady being a definite exception).
When I think that most of these guys were all at or near the top of their play sometime between 1985 and 1995, and then compare with today's QB roster, it has definitely gone downhill. Neither of yesterday's teams would have stood a chance if one of those QB's had been on the playing field for the opposing team.
I've been jaded with football for too many years...as a Vikings fan while Tarkington was QB. Fran had a nasty habit of playing a great season, only to get to the Superbowl and...well, look like one of the two QB's yesterday.
