I'm almost afraid to post my opinion here because there are freepers who condemn any of us for fearing the results of a Democrat controlled House. We go from Bush bots to trolls in the blink of an eye. LOL
We live in South Carolina, surely one of the most conservative states in the country. Nearly all our friends are conservatives and haven't ever voted for Democrats and won't start now. But they may stay home.
There is a lot of dissatisfaction among convervatives we know, mostly with regard to spending and the way Republican Congressmen have handled themselves. Frequently I hear they are sick and tired of our side just collecting paychecks and not defending the administration or the administration's policies. (We have Lindsey Graham who probably helps fuel that perception here).
I also hear that they don't want our side to get down in the gutter and get ugly, but they do expect SOME defense of the WMD the president lied charge, etc. Darned few Republicans defend that and when they do, they don't do a good job. We're sick of it.
I'll never stay home or vote Democrat. But lots of people will do either one and aboth of them are death for us in '06. And if they stay home, we're going to have to live through the impeachment of President Bush.
All I will add is, the jihadists are laughing their heads off right now.
But more is needed. Why the heck should the President NOT veto some spending bills? It is right on its face, let alone the positive political consequences.
Voters better wake up! Ginsburg and Stevens are on their last legs. Victory is so so so so so close. We need to stick together and win in 06 and 08.
I don't buy the argument the Republicans are "no better". No, Bush isn't the end-all be-all of Presidents. He's got a learning curve and I don't agree with all he's done.
Ronald Reagan, God rest his soul, had some problems, too. I can name them in two words: O'Connor/Kennedy. Do we sit around and denigrate Reagan's presidency? I don't. The man is a conservative icon, and rightly so.
Bottom line? My money and efforts this year are going to go to the candidates I believe in, if not to the Republican party. Perhaps I'll give some $$ and volunteer for the Republicans, perhaps not. My work for the conservative cause may go into other efforts.
But come Election Day, the one thing I will do is vote for the conservatives. 99% of the time that will be the Republican.
REALITY: We're going to be governed by either Democrats or Republicans. There is a difference, and I won't stand by and let Democrats take over because I refuse to participate!
That little guy didn't saddle this nation with anything. Republicans are responsible for Ross Perot. He came about to contest the Republican position, spoke directly to the people and proved not to have the stomache for the types of nonsense politics delivers in attempt to keep real people out.
Whether you fully agree with Perot or not doesn't remove from republicans the responsibility for it's earned loss of public confidence. The democrat party is a train wreck heading into obscurity. No two ways about it. If the republican party can't win against that at this point, it is in no way blameable on anyone but the republican party.
I hear you Peach...and that is one reason that I puposely put you on the ping...
I feel that there are two drum beats we have to drum between now and November...IMPEACHMENT and POST VIETNAM/MURTHA...
If our fellow Republicans/conservatives feel they can live with both of those results....then they should turn in their cards...because that will be the result of staying at home THIS November, let alone in 2008!!!
Since you are from New York .. it probably doesn't matter much
I'm glad to hear that. We live in an area of mostly retirees; maybe they just complain more. LOL
Hey....we need your HELP....and it was a shame...but a good lesson to those that think what they expect to happen, WILL happen.
She expected to win...and didn't...
We expect to win....but might not...
Democrats and republicans don't own this country or the political process. They've tried; but, that doesn't mean Americans can't own the process or do not. What you should be fast realizing is that republicans don't own votes. They can't just do whatever they want and invoke fear of the other side in pleading to get away with it. You have no right to a take it or leave it position and no beef if the public chooses to leave it because you won't listen to the people.
We were at a Super Bowl party and I mentioned to a friend that if Democrats regain the House in '06, they will impeach the president. He didn't believe me. He works and pays semi attention to the news, but not like we do on FR.
So I sent him several articles about it; he finally e-mailed back and said I could stop now because he believes me. LOL
As you said, those are the points we have to nail home to our friends to make sure they vote. And encourage them to encourage THEIR friends and family to vote too.
I understand what you are saying Peach
Though IMO .. I believe this type of fight belongs in the primaries
"So what is the issue that is keeping all these people home?
Would a Speaker Pelosi be better for your friends."
I guess you were directing that towards me. i will most likely vote Republican this year just because I want more conservative justices on the Supreme Court. I have serious problems with the way the GOP has handled spending and illegal immigration. However, The dems retaking the Congress would be a huge disaster, which I do not want to see.
The reality is there is going to be a Democrat or Republican representing every district and state in the Congress. The occasional socialist from Vermont notwithstanding. Your choice is CLEAR: Democrat or Republican. Having been both, I can say with certainty: Republicans (warts and all!) are better.
Tell that to chris1 .. he's the one voting for himself .. not me
EXACTLY...it is "better when Conservatives work like they are 20 points behind"...
and it might not be THAT big of a percentage...but, I tell you Johnnie...I for one, am not going to take a chance..
I will scream IMPEACHMENT or VIETNAM/MURTHA if that is what it will take to keep the dems from winning the House or Senate..
You can get mad at me if you want to....but, I will do what it takes...and I prefer not to have to fight with freepers to do it..
BTW.. in 2008 it could get really tricky if McCain does run...so we need to stay together for this NEXT election, so we have a buffer for the big fight then!!
