Worked in Dresden in WWII.
I think that's a bad analogy.
The fire bombing of Dresden did nothing to end or win the war.
The fire bombing of Dresden took place in mid-February
1945, when the outcome of the war with Germany was certain.
Whether it was for revenge, or terror, or whatever, it was a
wholesale slaughter of innocent German civilians, and almost everyone
now agrees it was wrong.
I read the story. I was just talking about various folks around the world who want us to "trust" them and extending the situation to "prove it by disarming". I didn't mean this story and should have made it clearer.
"I think you are too harsh.
We need to trust."
No way can platitudes take the place of keeping yourself armed among the enemy when you don't speak the language.
ah ok...
now your comment makes a ton of sense :)
And I agree, you make peace, not keep it....as the leftists would LOVE us to believe......
"Most of them had no clue" -- except for the ones who took the kids out of there. Someone knew, and I think many people knew. Bastards.
That caught my attention too because my Father once told me the only time he ever got a dressing down was when his CO caught him without his helmet.
My son, an Infantry LT. with the 25th ID, was involved in the same type of Civil Affairs operations in the same area about a year ago. His platoon and the entire Bn. in that AO also gathered intell during these encounters that was used in other types of operations. The village elders are key.
My prayers going up for Lieut. Trevor Greene. God's healing for him. God's comfort for his family.
Blessings,

If you want on/off my prayer ping list, please let me know. All requests happily honored.
I took that hot heavy SOB off every time I got a chance.
Turned it upside down and set on it too, made a great camp stool. Usually right after I had shaved in it and emptied the water.
And mine used his to cook his breakfast in . That is whenever he coud find fresh eggs .
Shinto. Remember the Japanese kamikaze screaming BONZAI (sp?)?
Only Indian related incident I can remember from 1973 was the trouble at Wounded Knee, SD.
I suspect that while the helmet is off and long arms are put down, the SF guys are always aware of where their primary hand is in relation to their sidearm.
If the villagers weren't in on it, why did the withdraw the children before the attack?
But, you are right, it would be wrong to level the village. Just dip every third man in pig blood, then hang him by his thumbs for a few days, with a sign around his neck.
Maybe they pulled them back because the elders were talking with the soldiers?
Maybe these types of meetings have gotten attacked before?
That village is near Kandahar.
We don't want to be giving AQ any advantages in the area. We are winning, we don't need to give AQ any breathing space by acting like we are what they say we are.
Opps ....my bad......1873.
Quite puzzling. Had Schamuhn his helmet on, the attacker could still have axed, or for that matter shot, him in the face. It looks in a way like a gesture of defiance towards the friendship between Schamuhn and the tribe. What called the children away? I'd want to know more about that. Maybe they were "axed" to come over to look or listen to something special.
